Chapter 17. Last day of school

Days had passed by and soon the weather was warming up. It was mid April now and the sun was bright in the sky bringing it everyone's skirts and ballet pumps. The prom was only three days away now that all our exams were over. Sam wasn't talking to me after my rejection to him. It was weird because I was feeling more guilty than I should have been and I didn't know why.

So today I was sat in my tutor group on a Wednesday morning in April for the last day of school before we broke up forever. I was so excited since all the bullies had left and I would know after today I would never have to face this again. Sam had come into the room and instead of sitting near me he bolted out of the room again. I blinked at the door wondering what was going on. I decided to go and find out so I ran to the door and Mr Dalies was standing in the doorway with his coffee balanced on his stack of work. Unfortunately I didn't see him and he couldn't see above his stack so we collided with a thud tumbling down to the floor. Mr Dalies' coffee spilt all down his suit. I stood up straightening myself out and looked at Mr dalies now coffee stained suit. "sir I'm so sorry." I said going deep red as others walked passed us. Mr Dalies obviously embarrassed held out his papers for me to take. I held onto the box like it was the most precious thing ever. He stood up and dabbed at his suit. "accidents happen." he calmly said. I took his box into the room and onto his desk has he disappeared in the direction of the toilets.

I decided now wasn't the time to see why Sam ran away. I sat back in my seat waiting for Mr Dalies as the class filled in. Mr Dalies eventually came in with a wipe dabbing at his suit. "settle down everyone." he said. Everyone calmed down and took their seats. Sam didn't come back though. I watched the clock move around slowly and still no Sam.

"we have an assembly now to say goodbye so make your way down to the hall." Mr Dalies said after he had took the register.

Sam had finally emerged from the toilets as we were walking into the hall. I looked at him confused but he just stared at the wall as if I wasn't there. I didn't know what to do but I knew I had to make it up to him. He went to sit with his other friend Jake. Shannon and Joanne's form had come into the hall just after us and made their way to the stuffy cinema like chairs. Since the school had been renevated they had made the assembly hall more like a cinema so it was enormous and the chairs were purple, pink and blue. Joanne and Shannon waved at me and frowned at Sam. I sighed and mouthed, help me. Joanne nodded then started biting her nails.

Mrs Sassa came into the hall in her dress that was too small for her and about to burst at any time and set up the Smart Board. She sat on the chairs waiting for the rest of the year to come in. I was watching Sam who looked like he was deep in though I had banged a few times to try and get his attention but he looked truly hurt. I sunk down in my seat feeling absolutely terrible still watching him and ignoring Mrs Sassa who had now started her PowerPoint presentation of our year. She showed photos of us doing different work and all of our tutor group photos from the groups. She had shown our work preparation group photos too. I sighed and blushed when I saw Adams photo. I still felt a little something for Adam even if he had hurt me badly. I wish I didn't feel anything but we had spent a whole summer together. I couldn't just forget him.

Mrs Sassa then shown some of our out of school activities we did in work preparations. She shown photos of us rock climbing, swimming and the Makaton session with Clara. The next photo made me almost cry. It was a group photo of Sam, Joanne and Shannon withme at Abbey park on the swing together. We all looked so happy. This was the year before Adam had joined we had taken a day trip out to Abbey park with Danny in April. We had ice cream and went to the kids park where we had a sand fight then we sat on the round swing that held three people on it. We had took turns on the swing but on Sams turn Shannon hadn't listened to Sam saying he wasnt ready, she pushed it high and Sam had fell off. I had given Sam a piggy back ride to Danny.
