Chapter 15.  Prom shopping

After Mandy’s announcement, I kept quiet about the whole prom thing. I thought it was a stupid idea anyway. All of the frilly dresses and stupid dancing. I didn’t want to talk to another boy for as long as I live.

Mandy went home not long after I got in. Mom was lounging around the place whilst I lay on my bed reading a magazine. Mom had come into my room looking for washing; she had sat down on the bed to be nosy more like. That is when she had seen the prom poster that Sam had given me that day. After that I couldn’t get her away from it.

The next day I couldn’t wait to get away from mum who had promised to take me and Joanne up town to buy a prom dress. She had already rang Joanne’s mum and told her so when I saw Joanne at school she was bouncing around.

This was the conversation when we met up at the school gates that morning. “Hello Amy, I take it you told your mum about the prom.”

Sam arrived a few seconds later. “No.” I corrected her. “My mum found the poster Sam gave me and wouldn’t shut up about it after.” I said. I gave Sam a look and he just shrugged.

“So you’re going?”Sam asked. I was about to answer when Joanne said. “Of course she is silly.” They both started giggling and i sighed. Why did my mum have to make such a big deal out of the prom, plus Joanne and Sam seemed hyper about it. I decided I would try to look like I was enjoying myself.

Luck didn’t seem to be on my side anyway, because the day was going extremely fast. Joanne and Sam were squeaking all day about prom. Everyone else seemed to be hyped up about it. Shannon was telling everyone that she would be the best looking. It was actually funny, everyone snickered in work extension. Lessons were actually fun to go to now the bullies had been suspended. There were actually only twelve of us in the class because of this so I could easily get on with my lessons and pass this class. The other lessons were pretty much the same. I knuckled down to revise for my exams and pass my GCSE’s.

Mum met us outside Bay Wood shopping centre in town. We first went in a couple of shops to find dresses and shoes to match the prom theme which was fairytale. Mandy was with us for some reason. When I asked my mum she just laughed as Mandy got out of her car and adjusted her handbag up her arm.

“Are we ready to shop?” Mandy smiled clapping her hands together. We made our way into the shopping centre.

We found a shop at the far end of the shopping centre. The shopping centre was packed full of clothes shops, coffee shop and food bars. The prom was up the escalator and right next door to a Nando’s.

We stepped inside and it smelt warm. Joanne paused at the door. “I don’t think I can afford anything from this shop.” She said. Mandy shook her head laughing. “Don’t be silly.” “I am paying for both of your dresses.”

After a few oh are you sures? And oh I will pay you back, We finally settled it and headed into the shop.

“Can I help you?” An assistant dressed in a white blouse and black skirt asked us

We shook our heads and headed to the coat hangers.

We finally found the dress we wanted after rejecting a few dresses that we changed into. I found a lovely light blue princess strapless dress and some blue heels with a diamond strap. Mum was nearly in tears when I changed into the dress I wanted. “You look gorgeous.” She clapped her hand wiping the tear away.

“I’m ready.” We heard from inside the changing room. Seconds later Joanne came out of the changing room and twirled.

“You look lovely.” We both squealed. She really did. Her dress was a lovely dark purple, knee length strapless dress. Mum clapped her hands again. “I think these are the ones.” She said. We both nodded and got changed.

“That will be £300 please.” Mandy put her card in the machine and we looked away as she tapped her pin in. “Thank you.” The woman said. She handed Mandy her card and bag with the dresses in them.

“Ok so let’s get shoes, bags and accessories.” Mandy smiled.

For the rest of the day Mandy dragged us around town. We eventually found some shoes and accessories to go with our dresses. After that we headed to the car park.

Mandy had given us all a lift home. Dropping Joanne off on the way. When I was home mum started dinner and I collapsed tired on the sofa.
