I went out the door and down the street. So we were going to have a house warming party, it would be very awkward. No one knowing what to say. Mum obviously thought I was out of the house, she would never of done that if I was within ear shot. She was digging a big hole for herself, I was angry at her for doing that. She knew I didn't want to talk to Adam, even if he was good looking. I didn't care.
'Hey Amy how are you'. Julie said as I walked into the shop. I wasn’t in the mood for talking in case I snapped, still angry with my mum trying to play cupid. So I just smiled at her and said ' I’m fine thanks Julie'. My voice sounding sharp and stern. She just smiled back at me and continued counting the money in the till.
So I got some milk, and went back to the counter. Julie took the two pound coin and handed me my change. ' So how is your holiday so far'. Her voice was tired but still friendly.
‘It’s a bit boring, not really doing much. Kind of looking forward to school again.' I then flushed thinking what a geeky thing to say. Julie ignored my bright red face.
' Well Sam has been asking about you, I got a postcard from him'. She handed me the postcard. In Sam's scribbly writing.
I read it and handed it back. I was mentioned in there. Just asking how I was, and he has got me a present.
' Yeah, how is he?' I asked. Grabbing the milk off the counter.
' He is great, having a good time, he misses you though'. She said eyeing the milk I was now swinging forward and back.
' You should go and put that in the fridge'. I just nodded and walked out the shop.
Back at home, Sophie was still nowhere to be seen. Mum was fussing over the house. Picking the sofa cushions up and shaking them, and putting them back. To me they looked the same as before. She was running in and out the kitchen asking me to Hoover the living room, making the dinner, and when I told her it was only the neighbours coming not the queen. She shot me a dirty look. Biting her lip and sighing.
After everything was done to her satisfaction. We both went upstairs to change. Mum insisted I wear something posh, I said the only thing posh I have ( or a little bit formal) was the bridesmaid dress from my aunties wedding. So as she put on her long blue dress which only came out when we had special guests? She also wore it at my aunties wedding as well. Even though it didn't look like formal wear. I liked it though. It tucked mum's tummy in just right, I just shoved on my navy blue strap top and a knee length skirt.
' You look nice'. She said looking at me through the mirror. Tying her hair into a posh bun. She then did the same for me as well. Even though I didn't ask. Minutes later a car pulled up. A black Mercedes must of cost a lot. Or it was well looked after.
'Hello Nicole'. I heard a friendly voice say followed by kisses and you look nice.
' Hello Mandy, Andrew and Adam, come in'. Mum moved out the way of the door as three faces appeared in the hallway.
' And you must be Amy'. Mandy said pulling me into an awkward and uncomfortable hug. Me and Adam exchanged awkward glances.
' Would anyone like drinks'. Mum asked hovering in the kitchen doorway. ' I have wine. Red and white'.
' Can I have a glass of red wine please'. Mandy asked finally letting go of me.
' Yes of course'. My mum disappearance in the kitchen. Then popped her head round the door again. ' Make yourselves comfortable in the living room I’ll be right in.'
In the living room everyone was sat on the sofa. I had to make do with the floor. As mum whispered to me. ' Let the guests have the sofa's'. Adam was looking around our living room. Probably thinking the same thing as me. Why am I here?
