AN: Honestly I feel like this isn't one of my best and I apologize in advance, but it was fun to write! This was requested by @low-key-lucaya and I'm very sorry it took so long!
Hey, Jack?" Katherine walked into the living room of her apartment, knowing full well that Jack was highly focused on his current drawing. She talked to him while he was working occasionally on purpose, because he was generally less stubborn if she asked him things while he only pretended to listen.
"Hmm?" Jack hummed in acknowledgment without looking up.
"I'm going out to lunch with Bill tomorrow, I thought I'd let you know."
"Yeah, sure Kath... have fun." Katherine grinned at that. She and Bill Hearst had been very close friends since they were children. But ever since her relationship with Jack had gotten more serious, he didn't really like her to spend as much time with her childhood friends. Katherine knew it was because he secretly felt threatened, though he would never admit it. Not that she actually stayed away from them just because Jack had asked her to. No, instead she just had to either do it without him knowing, or manipulate him into saying yes. Both of which usually worked.
"I will, thank you." And she walked out, once again feeling victorious.
oOo
As it turned out, Katherine hadn't thought through her plan as fully as she had thought. For instance, she hadn't expected Jack to turn up for lunch at the same restaurant she was going to with Bill. And she certainly hadn't expected him to walk up to their table.
"Katherine? What are you doing here with him?" She looked up at him.
"I'm having lunch with Bill."
"Why?"
"Because he's my friend and I want to have lunch with him. I told you about this yesterday, you have no reason to be mad." Jack shook his head.
"You never told me about this."
"Yes I did, while you were drawing. Now can you please leave us alone, I'll talk to you about this tonight."
"Maybe I should just leave." Bill quickly spoke up, looking very uncomfortable.
"Yeah, that'd be good." Jack agreed, but Katherine shook her head.
"No, Bill, you aren't going anywhere. Jack, go away, I'll talk to you tonight."
"Fine." Her boyfriend said through gritted teeth before walking away.
oOo
"What the hell was that about?!" This was what Katherine heard the second she walked into her apartment later that afternoon. She rolled her eyes.
"I don't know what you want me to tell you, Jack. I was having lunch with a friend and I'm sorry if that makes you upset."
"I just... you seem really close to just be friends."
"I have known him since we were both toddlers, of course we're close."
"But-"
"But nothing! We're just friends, it's nothing more than that, and to be perfectly honest it makes me sad that you don't trust me enough to believe that."
"It's not that I don't trust you, Kath. I do."
"I know you do. You just don't trust me enough, yet." She sighed when she saw the guilty look and Jack's face. "I know, it's hard for you to trust people, and I appreciate that you try. You just have to know that there is absolutely nothing going on between me and Bill. Or Darcy, for that matter. I love you, okay?" His response was to take her into his arms, and kiss her.
