Awake

The aroma of bacon filled my nostrils. The bright sun shined into the room. The sound of music playing filled my ears.

I became conscious and I slowly opened my eyes. Disoriented, I was in a purple room under purple bed sheets. The familiar smell of my bedroom triggered my senses.

I got up quickly from the bed and I stood up.

"What the..." I didn't even finish my sentence.

I was back home!

My mom's favorite music played throughout the house and a grin crossed my face. I ran down the stairs, not caring about how I got here, but excited to see my mom again.

"Mom?" I said over the soft playing music.

"In here." She said from the kitchen.

I ran to the kitchen and there she was. She was cooking food and was dressed in her pajamas.

"I don't have work today so I thought I would make you some food. I hope you don't mind bacon with your breakfast this morning."

I couldn't believe my eyes and ears. Here she was. Here I was. How did I get back?

I ran up to her as quickly as I could and I hugged her tightly.

"Rissa, what are you-"

"I never want to let you go." I said. I continued hugging her and I dug my face into her stomach. The scent of stargazers filled her shirt and I hummed in pleasure. This was my mom. She is here with me again. My hugs were unbreakable as she tried to rip my arms away from her waist. I didn't want to let her go.

"Marissa, what is wrong with you?" My mother turned away and continued to make breakfast.

I ignored her question and decided to ask my own. "Mom, what day is it?" I asked completely confused.

"Saturday, why?"

"What did we do yesterday?" I asked.

"You went to school like always and I had a late shift at work like always." She said simply.

"But I was taken on a Thursday..." I said to myself.

I remember, I was getting ready to watch Supernatural on t.v. and then things got weird.

"You were what?" My mom turned to me with her head cocked to one side and an eyebrow raised.

"Nothing nevermind."

My mom finished making breakfast and she placed the food on the table. We both sat down and put food on our plates.

"So I was thinking maybe we could go to the museum or something." My mom said. I stuffed my mouth with her homemade banana pancakes, missing the way she made them perfectly.

"Actually, I was thinking maybe we could stay home and watch some movies. I also have some things I want to tell you."

I planned on telling my mom what happened, or at least what I thought had happened. But I think I'll just save it for our movie time.

We both finished our food in silence, but it wasn't an awkward silence. I stared at her, as a loose strand of her brown hair fell to her creamy colored soft face. She brought her hand and move the hair out of her face. I could see her wrinkles on her face and bags under her eyes from working 12-hour shifts. She looked so tired and her hard work in the E.R. was making her look older than she actually was, but that's something I always admired about her. Her flaws is what makes her beautiful to me. I never realized how much of her I missed until now.
