I pushed the remaining branches out of my face as I stood beside Millie.
"Isn't it cool?! I found it a while back", Millie smiled brightly, "cmon don't be shy."
She took ahold of my hand and pulled me closer, "Millie what is this?", I trailed behind her as she stopped at the entrance.
"I'm not sure", she shrugged", but I read about it in the old history books, I thinks it's called a treehouse."
"Excerpt for the fact that it's a stack of wood on the ground", sadie added in.
Millie rolled her eyes and pushed back the curtain, revealing a little room with some blankets and papers scattered over the forest floor.
"This is...something", I said while looking around.
"Finn", Millie leaned over and harshly hit my arm, "well I don't care if you guys don't like it, I think it's pretty good."
"Yeah, pretty good for a five year old", sadie snickered.
Millie shot sadie a harsh glance as she folded her arms. I turned towards sadie as we both broke out in laughter.
"Haha very funny, have fun getting back on your own."
Millie brushed the dirt off her pants as she stormed out of the little room.
"Look what you did ", I motioned towards sadie still laughing.
"You were the one who starting laughing", sadie chuckled, "we should catch up with her, I wouldn't be surprised if she did leave us here."
I helped sadie up, pushing the curtain back we quickly caught up with Millie who was only a few feet into the forest.
"I'll see you guys tomorrow", sadie griped her bag as she waved behind her, "bye Finn."
Sadie disappeared around the corner, leaving Millie and I alone on the sidewalk.
"So", Millie said breaking the silence, "how do you think your first day went?"
"Well", I clasped my hands together behind my back, "besides for the fact that Caleb hates us, pretty well."
I laughed lightly as I looked over to Millie, she had a slight smile on her face although her gaze was focused on the sidewalk beneath us.
"Millie, is there a reason Caleb hates you so much?", I blurted out without thinking, "oh god that came out wrong, what I meant was-"
"Finn it's fine", Millie said waving her hand, "in all honestly I'm not too sure, he never really noticed me until I started to like Noah, that's when all the teasing began."
"Oh", I replied pursing my lips, "that sucks."
"I've gotten used to it", Millie shrugged, "it doesn't really bother me anymore, sooner or later you just stop fighting."
"Well you shouldn't have to get used to it", I uncomfortably shifted my weight between my feet, "if Caleb had anything good left in him, he'd realize that doing this won't get him anywhere in life, all it'll do is drag him father and farther down."
"Thanks Finn", Millie smiled warmly.
She leaned her head against my shoulder as we approached her street. I felt goosebumps spread over my body as her cheek brushed against me.
"Oh no", Millie deeply sighed lifting her head off my shoulder, "we need to go, now!"
"What why?", I asked as Millie grabbed my wrist.
"The police, they're searching the area", Millie huffed as she pulled me away from the street, "they'll find you within minutes, we need to get you out of here."
I took one last look at her street as she whisked me away. Police cars crowded the sidewalks and yellow tape was positioned around the river.
I just hope to god they don't find me.
