I fell to the cold pavement, my palms were scraped and covered in dried mud and blood. The lights were a erie shade of yellow, the street lamps all stood in perfect line down the cascading lines of perfect houses.
I slid down the perfectly paved road and pushed myself into a bush, I crawled backwards hoping to conceal myself from the bright lights of the police officers.
The rivers rushing water was right beside me, I felt pieces of the ground fall into the deep water.
I peered out of the perfectly trimmed bush, the officers had all gone the other direction leaving me a perfect path down the the secluded houses.
My heart was racing, I took a deep breath and ran. I ran as fast as I could down the neighbourhood, trying to avoid all light possible.
I finally stopped running, I can't tell where I am. The river was only a quiet noise, I was far from the bridge connecting the two city's.
I took in my surroundings, there was a straight line of houses, all with the same perfect white trim and the same bland grey.
God, who thought the money pit could be so plain, that's what we call the higher economic side from down below.
I heard voices in the distance, I needed to find somewhere to hide and fast.
All of the houses had their lights turned on, except for one. I looked back checking for any sign of movement, nothing.
I ran forward and peered in the tall glass window of the house, the lights were all off and it looked like the house had been deserted.
I snuck over towards the white door and turned the handle, it was locked.
My heart beat started to pick up, I brought my hands to my ears and covered them. I can't go back home, I can't.
There was a trail of white pebbles leading behind the house, I took my hands away from my ears and followed it.
A blinking red might caught my attention, I pulled my black hood over my head and pushed myself against the house. There was a security camera watching the back gate.
Keeping myself out of view and against the wall, I slid against the wall over to the gate.
I took one last look behind me before jumping the fence and landing in a perfectly trimmed backyard. White pots were lined up against the backside of the house, they all had perfectly manicured bushes.
I rolled my eyes and walked up to the back door, the handle was loose, I turned the knob as I winced my eyes in anticipation. The door swung open.
I stepped inside and closed the door behind me, my blood ran cold at the sight of what I saw.
Inside was the most luxurious house I've ever seen, coming from me that's a lot since I've lived on the streets my entire life.
They had white bar stools lined up against the marble countertop, the floor was a dark oak that paved the floor way, velvet grey chairs were symmetrically placed in front of a paper thin glass display.
I was in awe of everything, everything I've never had.
I snapped back to reality and remembered that I'm on the run and I should probably hide.
I laughed quietly to myself as I explored the house, I passed by a wall of what seemed to be very expensive paintings and continued down a hallway.
All the doors were closed except for one, I pushed the door open the entire way and peered in before taking my first step.
The carpet was soft against my worn out shoes that had more holes than stars at night.
The room was small, or average size I guess. There was a window that stretched from the roof to the floor and had long curtains draped across.
I walked over to the window and peaked out, the roads were silent, there was only the distant sound of the river to be heard.
I rubbed the velvety soft curtains between my fingers and dropped it as I made my way over to a white desk.
The desk had everything laid out perfectly, there was some school work I assumed, and some makeup on the top right corner.
So this was a girls room, I wonder what her name is.
I was beginning to get lost in my thoughts when a quiet voice spoke up.
"Who are you, and what are you doing in my house?"
