It was a week before school started and I wished summer would never end. I looked around my empty house. Will and Amy my foster parents, left the house to me, since they wanted to live in Europe for two years. I was 18 and Will and Amy trusted me completely. I guess it was a perk to having a cop for a foster parent, that everyone trusted me not to make bad decisions. Although I wasn't exactly a saint I was

still pretty mature for my age. To be honest I would probably never have a party here, no matter how much my girlfriend, Natalia wanted me to.

'We fell in love in a hopeless place, we fell in love in a hopeless place, we-"

I opened my text message before Rihanna could continue her annoying song. Natalia set that ring tone to her contact, I personally hated the song but Natalia decided to put it on my phone anyway.

"Hey Jason! Meet me at the Cove in an hour kay? love ya<3 xo Nat"

The Cove was our secret place at the beach, we had found it on our first date and to our knowledge no one else had been there. Luckily the beach was around five minutes away from my house, but today I

decided that I would go early.

I went upstairs and changed into my swimsuit. Then I went and got my towel. Where is the sunscreen? I thought. Quickly searching through my drawers I found some SPF 70.

I jogged out of the house and down the street I loved to run, the feeling of the wind was kind of like a drug. I couldn't get enough.

"Jay!" I heard a voice behind me. I looked around it was Alex one of my friends.

"Hey Alex." I greeted him nonchalantly.

"Hey, wanna do a basketball scrimmage?" he jogged up to me.

"Nah, I'll pass, I'm going to the beach."

"Oh, well are you excited to be the star this year?" he smirked.

I had slowed my pace to a walk now. "What do you mean by star?" I

raised my brow.

"Football, duh. How stupid are you?" Alex sighed.

"Very, and I am not that good."

"Liar." Alex accused me. I knew in a sense that I was good, but to me being the star wasn't that cool of a thing. Kind of cliche. Thank god Natalia wasn't a cheerleader or else I might assume that I am in some

type of sappy, cliche, romance novel. The thought made me smirk. "What are you smiling about?" Alex interrupted my thoughts.

"Nothing," I stopped walking, "Here I got to go kay? I will see ya later."

"Ok bye Jay." Alex ran the other way. I turned around and continued my jog to the beach.

When I got to the Cove, I set my towel down on a couple rocks, and I took my shirt off and set it next to my towel. I might as well swim before Nat comes. I dove under the water and opened my eyes. The water

was a perfect blue, I could see clearly. I came above water and laid on my back. This day was utterly perfect.

This day kind of reminded me of the day before my sister disappeared. We were on this beach.

"Jason!" Alice called. I ran over to her.

"What?" I kneeled behind her.

"Let's look over here for the mermaid!" she said enthusiastically.

"Mermaids aren't real, stupid." I said following her into the water.

"Jason don't call Alice stupid." my Mom told me.
