A week later the town was still on lockdown, school wasn't open, and the military had come. At first the government didn't believe us but one kid from my school had gotten a video of the incident and apparently the camera had caught something and I was brought in for questioning.
"Hey Jason," Officer DeDonald greeted. I just nodded a greeting. "I have a feeling you know why we want to question you." he scratched the back of his head nervously.
The door opened behind us revealing one of the military leaders, "Hello, Mr. Hughes, Officer DeDonald."
"I was just about to show him the video," he turned to me, "This is Major Swan, he will be here for the questioning."
"I have heard that you were quite close with, Circe correct?" Major Swan asked with an air of authority. I just nodded. DeDonald pressed a button, I looked over and saw the screen flicker to life.
It was Circe with spotlights pointed on her, I was next to her. Jack was trying to pull us along when she stopped. Then the camera showed the ground, the person was probably trying to get closer. Then it pointed up again, closer to us I saw Circe's lips move. Then a blur went through Jacks neck. It was quiet, the holder said, "Oh my god."
I immediately recognized the voice, it was Eddie. Knowing who the holder was made me want to see more but it paused.
"Did you see that?" Swan asked DeDonald. "Replay it." he got closer to the screen. The scene replayed where Jack's head was cut of. The same blur appeared. "Do you know what that is?" Swan asked me.
I did know, I just couldn't find the words to tell him what it was, or I wanted to protect Circe. I just shook my head no.
"Don't like to talk much do you?" I shrugged in response.
"Well, he was close to her, and this," DeDonald pointed to the screen, "Is traumatic for everyone, especially for him." I could see he was trying to defend me.
Swan sighed, "Keep playing it."
I turned my head to the screen again. Circe started to do a crazy laugh, I winced. The memory was still fresh in my mind and this video was just making it fresher. Another blur came on the screen again and another cop fell. I saw the look of horror on my face when the blur was dragging me toward Circe.
The blurs had gathered in front of us and were holding off the bullets from ever touching us. So that's how we didn't get hurt by the bullets. I watched as the blur pulsed and flung the bullets back. I gasped in horror when I heard a moan and the camera dropped to the ground.
Eddie died.
"Thats it?" Swan asked.
"Yes, we were lucky to find this, although the boy whose phone it was probably died." DeDonald shook his head sadly.
"That was Eddie!" I said.
Swan's brow rose, "Okay, but do you know anything about Circe? I am sorry for your friend though." he added.
"No, I don't." I looked down at my feet.
"You can tell us Jason, it will save lives." Swan stared me down.
"I told you she never told me she was a monster!" I snapped.
Swan sighed, "Alright I can clearly see you either do not know anything, or you don't want to tell us. I suppose you may leave now." he made a shooing motion.
I got up and left. I was sweating buckets, I walked to my car quickly and sped home. No one was on the road so I could go as fast as I wanted. Memories of Coco, not Circe showed up. Her walking downstairs in her dress, smiling. Then the Saturday mornings when all she would eat were eggs.
Then to when the first time we met, I remembered thinking she was a mermaid or something. What a shock when I saw a naked, blue haired, girl with no memory whatsoever. She had changed my life, for the better or worse I had no idea.
My dreams were cut short when someone was standing in the middle of the road. I slammed on the brakes. They had a black hoodie on, glasses, and shorts. They jumped back and ran off the road. I rolled down my window.
"Wait!" I yelled to the stranger.
The hood fell down, revealing dark blue hair.
"Circe!" I yelled. She slowed down a bit and turned to me. It wasn't Circe.
"How do you know my sister?" she hissed.
"Who are you?" I asked. She walked up to me.
Right in my face she whispered, "I am Aphrodite."
"The goddess of love?" I asked, confused.
She laughed, "In a sense I guess you could call me that. Who are you though?"
"Jason."
Her blue brows flew up she murmured, "So you are the one I was looking for." She motioned me to follow her. "Follow me." We walked in silence for a few minutes then she turned to me. "Close your eyes." I did as I was told.
All of a sudden my body was on fire, I tried to open my eyes but I couldn't. I am going to die. The burning resided, I opened my eyes. I looked around it was a beach. Tainted red, the sky looked like it was on fire. It was beautiful
"This is where Chiwa used to be, until Circe had awaken. Which is why it is now red." I turned around and saw Aphrodite standing there.
"Its beautiful." I told her.
"Of course it is, this place is a completely different dimension by itself. It used to be otherworldly though. It used to be purple, and blue. It was beautiful." she shook her head. "Enough of my rambling. I need to tell you what you need to do."
"About?"
"Circe." she sighed, "See, Circe loves you Jason, well she did. And you need to save her."
"Save her?"
Aphrodite nodded, "From Chiwa, Chiwa is a complete monster no mercy is her policy. She also influences Circe to do bad things. I used to be on her side, until I died. Then I realized that our lives were a lie. Circe is the only one who has a chance you need to save her."
"How?"
"By-" a spike in her throat cut her off.
A voice drifted through the air.
No telling secrets Aphrodite dear. Its sad your soul must die as well. A shame.
I was thrown back into reality. I was on the forest floor. My breathing was quick and heavy. I pulled myself up and walked to my car.
I need to help Circe, but how?
