This was Caitlin's worst nightmare coming true. The love of her life dying. She had already gone through enough pain when Ronnie had died. She couldn't lose Barry, too. She refused.
When Barry had stopped talking mid sentence, Caitlin knew they had to get down to where he was and fast. She had wished Barry had let Wally help him, because maybe he wouldn't have been beaten so badly, but she knew her Barry; he was stubborn but wanted to make sure no one else got hurt. He wanted to protect Wally and who could know if Wally would have been hurt too. She just wished this didn't happen to him. She really couldn't live without him.
When Wally brought Barry in, Caitlin's heart stopped. He looked lifeless and she immediately began to cry while running over to him to make sure he was okay. He was unconscious so she began to worry. They all helped Barry onto the hospital bed and Caitlin began to hook him up.
"His vitals are extremely low." Caitlin exclaimed, cutting open his suit to get him out of the restricting clothing. Normally Cisco would become upset whenever his suit was ruined, but this time he didn't care. All he cared about was his best friend being okay.
Caitlin felt a hand on her shoulder and looked over to see Cisco smiling at her with sad eyes, "Maybe you should sit this one out, Caitlin. This may not be the best –"
"No! I have to make sure Barry is okay. He is not dying on me; I refuse to let that happen." Caitlin snapped and shrugged Cisco off her, tending to Barry and praying that his healing would catch up to him soon enough.
It had been hours and Caitlin never left his side. Everyone was worried about Barry, too, but they needed to go home for some sleep. Caitlin refused to leave his side and didn't want him to wake up seeing anyone's face but hers. Sure, she may have been selfish, but she loved him with everything she had and would have no idea what she would do if she lost him. She had been through so much pain and heartbreak that she wouldn't be able to handle it if Barry had died. He was the one keeping everything together for her. She knew deep down, she had that killer in her, but Barry kept Killer Frost at bay. If Barry didn't wake up, she wouldn't know what she would do. She might even let Killer Frost come out so she wouldn't have to deal with the pain of losing Barry. She couldn't ever lose him.
"Hey," Cisco walked up to Caitlin and took a seat beside her, handing her a bag of Big Belly Burger. "I got you some food. You should eat." He smiled at her and she returned it, taking the bag and falling back into her seat, never letting go of Barry's bruised hand.
"Thank you, Cisco." Caitlin gave him a small smile and peered into the bag, taking out the fries. She heard her stomach grumble and she laughed. "I guess I was hungry." She tried to make a joke and Cisco just looked at her, forcing a smile.
"He's going to be okay, Caitlin. I promise." Cisco reassured her.
She looked over at Barry and squeezed his hand. Even when he had cuts and bruises all over his face, he still managed to make her heart flutter. He always had that affect on her, even from the first time she had laid eyes on him. He had been her patient for nine months and although he was in a coma and they never talked, he made her heart jump. That's when she knew Barry Allen was the love of her life. Even after Ronnie came back, he still tugged at her heart in a way she thought wasn't possible. They had been through so much together and she couldn't bare to think that she could possibly be living her life without seeing Barry again, or hearing his voice, or feelings his lips...
She felt Cisco's hand on her knee, rubbing it slowly and she reached up to her cheek, wiping the tear she didn't realize had fallen.
"Wake up, Barry. Please." She squeezed his hand and took a deep breath. She began to eat some of her fries and talked to Cisco about anything but Barry. She needed to get her mind off it. If she thought about it any longer, she was going to go crazy. She had already lived a life waiting by Barry's bedside awaiting him to wakeup, but now it's different. Before, he was just her patient, but now? He was her everything. Every second that passes where he doesn't wake up, she was slowly losing her mind.
Suddenly, both Cisco and Caitlin jumped at the sound of the monitor. There was a loud beep. Caitlin's heart dropped.
"No!" She screamed and immediately got up and began to do chest compressions on him. "He's flat lined, Cisco get the defibrillator!" She instructed Cisco while counting out loud how many chest compressions she was doing. She began to do mouth-to-mouth and Cisco came back with the defibrillator.
"Caitlin, stand back." Cisco placed the two pads onto the correct areas and waited for it to charge. "Clear!" Cisco yelled as Barry's body was shocked and jumped in the bed. Caitlin went back to doing chest compressions, but was crying and couldn't stop.
It had been ten minutes of them doing CPR and using the defibrillator and Cisco looked over at Caitlin with sad eyes as she continued to do CPR. He grabbed onto her arms and held them tight. She started to punch him in the chest, crying out. She couldn't believe that he just died in front of her. She has nothing left. Barry was her everything and without him, she has nothing. Cisco grabbed a tight hold of her and brought her into a hug, rubbing her hair as she cried into his chest. He had just lost his best friend, but he couldn't imagine how Caitlin was feeling. She had been through hell and back and now the one thing that brought light into her life was taken from her, too. Cisco looked over Caitlin's shoulder at Barry's lifeless body and began to cry as well.
There was a loud gasp and Barry's body shot up, looking around the room. Caitlin erupted into happy tears and ran to his side, grabbing onto his hand and kissing him. She became confused when he pulled away. The look on his face worried her. He looked very confused. Cisco waited at the bed with a huge smile on his face, so happy that his best friend didn't die.
"I'm sorry, who are you? Where am I?" Barry looked around the room, his eyes going back and forth from Cisco and Caitlin. He sat upward, straightening himself in the bed.
Caitlin's heart dropped. This cannot be happening.
"It's me, Cait.... Your Cait." Caitlin barely made that out and her once happy tears were now sad tears once again.
"C'mon, Barry. That's not funny. It's us! Vibe and Killer Frost –" Cisco stopped and turned to Caitlin who was glaring at him. "Just kidding, it's just Cisco and Caitlin." He smiled awkwardly and took a step towards the bed and Barry looked between the two people who he had never seen before in his life.
"I'm sorry, I don't know who you are."
