Things were starting to look up for Caitlin. Everything was slowly going back to how they used to be, minus the fact that it was like Barry and her had just started dating. It was still nice to have him back.
It had been about a week since they had their first date. Caitlin had been so ecstatic about it, that she couldn't stop smiling. It was nice for everyone because it wasn't such a sad situation anymore. Obviously it still kind of sucked that Barry didn't have his memory, but he was willing to try and remember things.
He started to train as well. He thought he should try and get back into being the Flash, especially since the city needed him. Wally was definitely a big help the past few weeks in making sure the city was somewhat safe from any criminals, but two is better than one.
Wally has loved having the chance to be the only hero of the city, but he does miss Barry's help. He also did like the fact that he was the one helping Barry instead of Barry helping him. That was an interesting change.
"Woo!" Barry's excited yell echoed throughout the track as Caitlin and Cisco watched that familiar red streak pass their eyes. It was nice how much Barry enjoyed having his powers. The last three years have been eventful. Just when they think they're in the clear, another villain who is worse than the last comes around.
As happy as Barry was with Caitlin and everyone in his life, she knew that he was destroyed inside. He had suffered from so much loss in such a short period of time, of course it will take a toll on a person.
That hurt was still there after learning about everything that happened, he took a week of bumming around taking in everything, but he never got to truly experience that pain. It was almost like he chose not to believe it. He knew that the team wouldn't lie about anything, but he didn't watch his father die like Cisco had mentioned. To him, his father was still in jail for a crime he never committed. Instead of taking in the pain, he's choosing to shove it to the back of his mind. He didn't want to believe it and one day he'll deal with the pain of losing someone who meant so much to him, but for now he's living in the now and appreciating was life has given him.
Barry sped to a stop and nearly crashed into Caitlin and Cisco who both caught him. He smiled at the two of them and laughed, looking down at his feet. "I still have to get used to stopping. It's a lot harder than you think!"
"You're doing great." Caitlin smiled at him. He returned the smile which sent butterflies to her stomach. Three years later and he still has that effect on her.
"You think so?" He asked and both Cisco and Caitlin nodded their heads.
"Yeah, dude. You're almost as fast as you were before the incident. We just have to work on stopping, then we can throw in the physical training too." Cisco told him, referring to the fighting. They definitely had to do that, especially remembering how bad Barry was at the start.
"Anyway, I'd love to stay and chat, but I've got a date." Cisco wiggled his eyebrows at his two friends. Caitlin grinned feeling genuinely happy for him. He never had the best luck when it came to the love front, so for him to find someone who can understand him on a better level is amazing. Cisco deserved to be happy, and if she made him happy than Caitlin was glad.
"Go!" Caitlin ushered him to leave and he gave a quick wave before jogging off. Barry turned to face Caitlin as she was gathering her things. Barry was excited to get out on the job, but she wasn't sure if he was fully ready yet. He still needed a little more time.
When he wasn't training he was working at the CCPD, so he was still occupied at least. She felt kind of bad denying him to get back out there with Wally, but she didn't want him hurt again. The last time he was out he almost died and ended up losing three years worth of memories of his life. She didn't want that to happen again, so she was being a little overprotective. Hell, everyone was. They were worried once he came back on the scene, people would start talking about the Flash being back, and that awful man might come back to finish him off.
"So," Barry's voice startled Caitlin as she was lost in her thoughts. She turned to face Barry who was standing extremely close to her. She politely took a step back to distance herself from him. "I think I want to come home – with you."
Caitlin dropped her clipboard, but Barry quickly grabbed it using his speed. He handed it back to her slowly, waiting for her to speak.
He had been thinking about it ever since their date. It felt like he was moving too fast for himself, but to Caitlin it was just like old times. What harm could it do?
"Say something." Barry spoke.
Caitlin shook her head, snapping out of her trance and she smiled up at Barry. "I'd – are you sure? I don't want you to feel uncomfortable at all."
Barry reached for her hand and gently rubbed his thumb along the back of it. He took a step closer to her and Caitlin's heart began to race. She had missed his touch. The romantic one, not just the comforting I'm-sorry-I-don't-remember-you touch.
Barry had wanted to kiss Caitlin on their date, but he wasn't sure if she would pull away or not and ever since that date, he's thought about doing it every time he saw her. He just wanted to go right up to her and kiss her.
It was crazy to think that at one point in time he had feelings for Iris, but it was hard to imagine feeling anything for Iris when Caitlin exists. When he first woke up, he was a little convinced hat he still loved Iris, but after spending more and more time with Caitlin, he knew that there was nothing there. She was this beautiful, amazing woman who loved him. He was lucky that she felt that way about him.
Caitlin shyly looked down at their hands and Barry took his index finger under her chin, tilting her head to look up at him.
"With you? I could never feel uncomfortable." Barry placed his hand on her cheek and she closed her eyes, leaning into his touch.
It had been hard for her to not just kiss Barry or hug him whenever she saw him. It was also hard not to wake up to him every morning. The one thing she missed the most was their daily Sunday breakfast. Every Sunday they would wake up – more like Caitlin would wake up and force Barry out of bed – and cook breakfast together. Caitlin was always up early brewing the pot of coffee and gathering all of the food for them to make food together. The amount of food they would make was definitely a lot, but it was the time they spent together that mattered. It had become a tradition with them, so it was weird waking up on Sundays not making breakfast with Barry.
"Then it's settled," Barry smiled, taking a step back from Caitlin. "I'm moving in."
