"Aria..."

"Ariaa..?"

"ARIA!!"

I jumped up from my sleep, flinging my arm and hearing a yelp as I sat up.

"What do you want Alicia?" I asked groggily as I rubbed my eyes.

"Firstly, for you to not hit me when I'm waking you up. Secondly, for you to wake up unless you wanna be late for school." My younger sister replied, before exiting my room.

I searched for my phone on the side of my desk; turning it on to check the time.

07:55

Oh shit.

Oh crap, oh crap oh.. I thought to myself before jumping out of bed and getting dressed.

If you don't want me to be late for school, why wake me up 10 minutes before I have to leave the house??

I rushed down the stairs and into the kitchen to find a quick snack.

I could not last without breakfast.

I filled, (more like overloaded), a bowl of cornflakes and searched for a carton of milk in the fridge.

Nothing. My morning's off to a great start ain't it?

"Alicia!!! Where's the milk!?!?" I shouted from the bottom of the stairway.

"It finished!"

So, either I run and grab some milk from the store, get late, and get detention, or I go without breakfast.

Detention it is.

By the time I got back from the store and ran into my house, it was 8:05.

"Seriously?" A voice asks from the sofa.

I turn around to see Angel slouching with her feet up on the table.

"Teacher's are gonna start hating me because you keep getting us late to school." Angel said as she messed with her nails.

"Oh sure, I'm the reason they're gonna start hating you." I replied as I sat opposite her, trying to eat my cornflakes quickly, but the least bit humane.

"Rude."

"Late for the second day in a row. This is not going to look good on either of your reports this week." Our head of year said, as she ticked our names off the absent list. "Get to class the both of you, quickly."

Obviously we took the longest route up to the Science Floor and quietly entered our class, trying to blend in with all the roaming students completing their experiments. Granted, we still got caught by Miss Freida.

"You're both late. Angel, go join Rosalie and Selina. As for you Aria.."

Freida was cut off at the creaky sound of the door opening.

Mitchell entered, cautiously looking around to avoid being seen by the teacher. That was a total flop.

Miss Freida turned her head back to me.

"Aria, you can work with Mitchell." She smiled yet remained in her monotone voice.

I opened my mouth to argue, but I thought coming in late then fighting with the teacher would probably land me another detention that I didn't need.

I walked over to the empty spot on the bench, as Mitchell followed behind me.

I looked over at Angel, Rosalie and Selina, shaping hearts with their hands and making awkward, disturbing comments from the other side of the class room.

I rolled my eyes and read the worksheet.

I muttered the instructions to myself.

"So we gotta measure 20cm cubed of sulphuric acid, then place each allocated metal in the test tubes.."

"Aghh, your so boring man." Mitchell whines as he sits up on the bench.

"Get down idiot, your gonna spill something. So first is Potassium, my favourite element, which is K..." I said as I searched the table, reading the labels on different containers.

"K? Ooooh K is for Keegan. No wonder Potassium is your favourite." Mitchell laughed whilst nudging me and winking.

That boy has a death wish.

"Shut up and get a life." I reply, before continuing with the experiment. "Make yourself useful and go and get us some goggles."

"Ugh, fine." Mitchell said reluctantly, as he jumped from the work bench.

As he slid his hand, the beaker of potassium and acid slipped and broke, causing the whole class to turn and look at us.

"S/He did it!!" Me and Mitchell said in unison, pointing fingers at each other.

I saw my idiot friends in the corner of my eye dying of laughter and winking at me and Mitchell. God I'm so making them regret this later.

"Never mind, accidents happen. Get back to your work." Miss Freida said as she exited the class to go get help.

I turned around slowly and shot Mitchell a death glare.

"You just can't help yourself can you?" I asked him, whilst folding my arms.

"Me?? Well maybe if you stopped daydreaming about Keegan all the time, it wouldn't have happened." Mitchell replied.

"Firstly, ew. Secondly, you're the one who knocked it over!!" I retorted. "You know what, just shut up, I cant be arsed to hear your voice."

I threw my hands up in defeat, not realising there was a lit Bunsen burner right behind me.

It landed on the floor, not making much sound for anyone to notice...but the smoke was pretty obvious. It had caught alight because of the acid that Mitchell spilled.

Mitchell and I glanced up at each other from the small spark on the ground that was rapidly getting bigger, before yelling,

"FIRE!!!!"
