Nung nadistribute na yung mga kwarto namin, dumiretso na ako sa room na nakaassign sakin kaysa sumama pa sa tour tour na nalalaman nila. Ayaw kong makasama yung mga plastic na yun. Naiirita lang ako sa kanila. All those facades. All those farces. All those fakeness. And they have the audacity to call themselves as ‘friends’.

Para mawala yung inis ko, I chose to divert my attention to something that is much less stressful than my companions. Baguhan palang ako sa larangan na ito pero nakakaengganyo talaga.

I’m starting to love the world of writing. There I’m free. I can reach my dreams. I can do everything.

I can make my fantasy seem like a reality.

Kinalkal ko yung bag ko at kinuha yung notebook na ginagamit ko sa pagsusulat ng isang kwento. A fairytale. My fairytale.

Sa unang tingin, para lang siyang isang retelling ng the little mermaid. Pero there is more to it than that. It has a little story hidden inside it. My life story. My love story.

It was the fairytale that I have always wanted. If you look past the magic, if you look past the fantasy; you’ll see another story.

Once upon a time, there was a mermaid who lived in a castle at the deepest part of the ocean. Her name was Arielle.

Now living in the deepest part of the ocean means living in the darkness. And living in the darkness means living in despair. In melancholy. In misery.

Arielle had always hated the darkness.

And the only way she can escape the darkness is by going to the surface where it is bright and sunny. But the surface, as bright and sunny as it seems, was much more dangerous than the darkness that she had grown to hate. For it was filled with humans.

Humans are very judgmental. They tend to discriminate, demean and destroy those that are very different from them. They always say that you have to be real, you have to be you. But if you act differently, if you act like your true self, you are treated as a weirdo and a queer. They persecute you. And Arielle being a mermaid is not helping her case.

But humans still fascinate her. They have a complex moral system. Their concept of what is good and what is bad is very different from one individual to another. And they seem to judge others because they sin differently than them.

But despite the danger, despite the peril, Arielle still wished to go to the surface.
