I woke up hours later. As I checked my watch I realized I slept almost the whole day and it was dinner time. The Runners must have been gotten back from the Maze by now and I was sure Minho would not be happy with my absence today. I sighed and hid my face in the pillow.

I turned on my back and watched the ceiling for a couple of seconds before reality finally hit me. I remembered Newt and all the events from the last night. My eyes filled with tears once again in such a short time.

Then soon I remembered the purple flower I found on my pillow and I frowned. I definitely needed to talk to Thomas; and not just because the flower was from him, but I missed my best friend so much. Gally was right, after a good nap everything seemed clearer.

I got up from bed and brushed my hair for a bit before heading towards Frypan's Kitchens. The Gladers were still working, so that only meant the dinner wasn't ready yet. However, I spotted Thomas at a further table having a conversation with Chuck. As I got closer, Thomas noticed me and stopped talking. I took a seat on the other side of the table, looking at him the whole time.

"Hi Tommy", I said to him.

"What?", he snapped. "Are you going to yell at me again?"

I saw Chuck standing up from the table and leaving, letting us talk.

Thomas seemed angry and hurt in the same time and I regretted immediately that I slapped him in the morning.

"No, I wanted to say thank you."

He frowned in confusion then folded his arms. "For what? Did you finally find out who truly was the bugger who told Alby?"

It was my turn to frown and fold my arms. So I guess he still wouldn't admit it?

"I wanted to thank you for the flower. I thought it was some kind of apology."

"Flower? What are you talking about, I didn't send any flower ?!"

He was shocked now and so was I. "Then who did it?", I asked him with a shaky voice.

He looked at me and then around the Glade. "I don't know but definitely it wasn't me."

He run a hand through his hair and then slowly whispered. "Someone around here is messing with you, so please be careful. I didn't have any reason to tell Alby because Newt is a good guy and I trust him."

He reached for my hands and took them in his both hands. "You're my best friend", he added. "I would never do that to you. I can help you to find who the Slinthead was, but you have to trust me on this."

We locked eyes for a second and I saw the honesty in them. I gulped and squeezed his hands in approval, then slightly smiled.

"I trust you, Thomas", I said. "I'm sorry for blaming you, I was not thinking clearly this morning."

He nodded and gave me a sad look. "You two are going to get through this", he tried to encourage me.

"Have you...seen him today?", I asked. "I'm afraid that if I get too close, Alby will lock me up."

"No, I haven't seen him."

I nodded in understanding, but my bottom lip was already shaking from my attempt to hold my tears.

"Can you check him up for me later?"

"Okay, I can do that", he said.

Thomas let go of my hands when Frypan announced that the dinner was ready. He stood up and went for two plates for both of us. I waited for him in silence while I was watching the other Gladers and trying to figure out who sent the flower. But no one was looking back at me, observing my moves.

My best friend came back after a couple of minutes and put a plate in front of me. I watched my dinner and I felt sick, remembering that Newt was starving in the Slammer.

"Hey Tommy, could you please take this to Newt?", I said pointing to my dinner. "I don't know how much he ate today."

Thomas sighed and put his fork down.

"How much did you eat today?", he asked. "I heard it was a rough day for you either."

"Yeah, it could have been better", I shrugged.

"Look, let's make a deal. One day he'll get half of my dinner, the next day he'll get half of yours. How about that?"

I thought for a moment at his proposal. "Okay fine, but today he gets mine, because you've been in the Maze the whole day."

"No, he gets mine", he said. "You need some food."

I looked him in the eye, but he didn't budge. In that moment I realized that Tommy wouldn't do such a thing, to tell Alby about me and Newt.

"Thanks, Thomas", I slightly smiled, taking his hand and gently squeezing it.
