Newt was so distant lately. He would avoid eye contact every time he was talking to me; he would skip our dinners mumbling some excuses about his responsibilities as Second in Command; he even stopped spending the nights with me.

I was worried that maybe I did something wrong, something that got him upset. But he would always tell me that everything was perfectly fine and I didn't need to worry about it.

After a couple of weeks of barely talking to each other, I finally decided I've had enough. I watched him the whole day minding his own business and only peeking at me from time to time.

He was upset, I could tell something was bothering him and I couldn't stop asking myself why wouldn't he trust me to ease his mind for a little bit. But then yet again, we were talking about Newt, the guy who would never complain about anything.

As soon as I noticed him finishing his daily routine in the Gardens and heading towards the Showers, I sneaked into his room, waiting for his arrival. Newt's place was a bit messy and dusty with a couple of Maze maps laying onto the floor and his bed. I knew he uses to work a couple of hours during the night watching and comparing maps and maybe that was the reason he would spend most of the time alone lately; maybe he has found something new; or maybe he has lost faith and got depressed. Whatever the thing that was bugging him was, I wanted to find out and help him get over it.

I moved some of the maps from his bed to his desk and took a seat, patiently waiting for him. It was no longer than twenty minutes when Newt finally showed up, his hair still wet. He stopped in the threshold of the room, not expecting to see me there.

"Y/N", he sighed. "What are you doing here?"

He slowly entered the room and closed the door behind him. He folded his arms, frowning at me and waiting for my response.

"I wanted to see you."

We stared at each other for a long second before he finally went closer and took a seat on the bed next to me. He sighed again and grabbed my hand in his, squeezing it slightly.

"You're worried again", he said.

I looked at our hands and I realized how much I missed his touch. He was playing with my fingers now, gently pinching my skin.

"Of course I am, Newt. You don't talk to me anymore, not the way you used to."

Newt gave me a sad look, nodding at my statement and approving my words.

"What's the matter? Have you found out something new about the Maze? The maps?"

He shook his head, avoiding my eyes again. I grabbed his chin with my other hand and gently turned his face towards mine.

"Talk to me, love", I said. "Don't let this eat you inside."

I squeezed his hand and smiled at him, assuring him that everything is going to be alright.

"You don't love me like the way you used to", he finally said, eyes damp from the tears.

"What are you talking about?" I was taken aback by his response.

"The look in your eyes, it has changed", he explained. "That sparkle is not there anymore."

"Yes it is, Newt."

"Am I not good enough for you?", he asked. "I know I'm just a Gardener, a limping one even. But that didn't seem to bother you in the beginning."

Clearly he was overreacting. His limp never bothered me, not to mention his job.
