After three days of total agony of not seeing Newt, the feeling of emptyness was almost unbearable. Thomas was the only one who kept me updated all this time about his health and mental condition. The good news was that he wasn't starving because me and Thomas continued to share our dinner with him every night; Thomas made sure no one would see him sneaking extra food through the Slammer's bars while they were talking. But what worried me the most was his mood, which Thomas said it was getting worse by the day.

„He misses you a lot", Thomas told me that night. „He's always asking about you, talking about you."

I sighed at his words, my eyes already filled with tears. „I miss him too, Tommy. I would do anything to see him for at least five minutes."

Thomas gave me a sad look and patted me on the back. „Try and hold on just for a bit longer."

I nodded and wiped my tears that already started to run down my cheeks. Then I hugged him and thanked him for his help.

Gally was always around me lately, trying to help me with everything and beeing such a good support for my mood. But that night all I needed was to be alone. So I excused myself from a half-drunk Gally and left the Bonfire, heading to my room.

I fell asleep within minutes, but the thought of Newt didn't let me sleep for long, my mind being filled with dark images and noisy screams. So I stood up from the bed and paced the room for a while, before I heard soft knocks on my door. I frowned in confusion, not knowing who could it be at such a late hour. I heard the knocks again, then Thomas's voice at a low tone.

„Wake up, Y/N it's Thomas", he said.

I approached the door and opened it, looking at him in surprise. „Tommy?", I asked. „What's wrong?"

He gave me a startled look, wondering why I was still awake. „I couldn't sleep", I asnwered his thoughts.

His look softened and he sighed. „Then let's go, everybody is sleeping now", he said with a smirk.

„Go where?", I frowned and folded my arms.

„To see Newt, you Shank!" His smile widened and he grabbed my hand, dragging me after him down the stairs and outside the Homestead.

My heart was beating faster at the thought of seeing my lover again, but in the same time I was afraid that someone might see us. So I snatched my hand from his grip, making him stop. "Are you sure about this?", I asked him.

He rolled his eyes and glared at me. "Do you want to see Newt or not?", he snapped.

I gulped and bit my bottom lip, then grabbed his hand again. In that moment I was sure I would risk anything to see Newt for just a couple of minutes. "Let's go", I said and he smiled.

We sneaked between the other Gladers sleeping on the ground and in no time we were near the Slammer. Thomas sat down in front of it, signing for me to do the same in order for no one to see my body shape through the night.

"Hey Newt!", Thomas whispered. "Wake up Shank, I brought someone to see you!"

A couple of seconds passed without any answer, then suddenly a silhouette appeared behind the bars, its fingers grabbing them for a better support.

My eyes filled with tears at the sight of a dirty face and tired eyes, thin cheeks and chapped lips.

"Newt?", my voice cracked and I covered my mouth with one hand to muffle my sobs.

His eyes moved from Thomas towards me and he froze in place.

"Y/N...", he whispered and he looked so confused. "You're not supposed to be here, love!", he reached for my hands through the bars and I moved closer so I can hold his either. "It's dangerous..."

"I don't care, I just wanted to see you for a bit." Tears were running down my cheeks and my body was shaking so bad. But all that mattered in that very moment was that I finally got the chance to see him.

I leaned forward and kissed his hands then I cupped my face with them, wanting so desperately to feel him closer. All this time he tried so hard to hold his tears, but seeing me such a mess he lost it too. He pulled me down by grabbing my collar and kissed my lips through the wooden bars. His lips were dry, but the kiss was full of passion and warmth like always.

We simply forgot about Thomas in those heavenly seconds, who stood now a little bit further in order to give us some privacy.

"I love you, Newt", I told him when we pulled back from each other. "Please hold on in there."

I tried to sound strong for him, to give him the courage he needed so bad.

He nodded and cupped my face again, kissing my forehead. "I will, don't worry about me", he said. "I will be fine as long as I know everything is alright with you." He gave me that sort of look like he knows something and he waited for my answer.

I moved my gaze from him, not letting him to see the lie from my eyes. "I'm fine, really."

"Really?", he said. "Thomas told me someone is messing around with you."

I gulped and looked back at him, giving him a slight smile. "I will be fine. You'll be soon out of here and we'll sort things out. Together." I squeezed his hand at the last word, assuring him of the veracity of my statement.

I could see his features changing under my eyes. He was more confident than a minute ago, his smile was happier, his eyes were shinning and his grip around my hands changed into soft strokes of my skin.

"I love you so bloody much", he said.
