After having that conversation with Newt, things has started to change, fortunately in a good way. He was looking forward to being released from the Slammer and finally talking to Alby about our relationship. I doubted that he would change his rule, even if I would tell him about my feelings for Newt. But he was sure he could make Alby change his mind.
"He's very optimistic about it", Thomas told me the night before Newt's release.
"I don't think he should be", I said sadly. "Alby might take his Second in Command status if he even dare to say something like that."
Thomas patted me on the back and sighed. "I know, I told him that." He took a sip from his Moonshine and added: "But he said he doesn't care about it."
I frowned at him in confusion. "Yes, he does. Newt loves order and to keep everything in good place."
"Not if he has to choose between you and that."
I gave him a slight smile when he grinned at me. "That Shank really loves you", he said.
My smile widened at his words and I took the Moonshine from his hand, sipping at it. "I love him too, Tommy."
"Yeah, I know that. Your eyes shine every time you're talking about him." He nudged me in the arm, making me to spill the drink a little.
We both laughed at that. It was almost midnight, but the Bonfire wasn't over yet and I didn't care I had to run the longest Section the next day. The thought of Newt being in my arms again soon gave me strength.
"What are you Shanks laughing at?", we heard Gally's voice from somewhere behind us. I turned around and greeted my friend with a wave as he sat down on the long with us.
"Nothing much", I told him. "Just being excited about tomorrow."
"What's tomorrow?", he asked and I gave him a puzzled look.
"Newt is being released from the Slammer."
"Ah, right!", he said, slapping his forehead with his right palm. "It's been already a week. Well that's good news, right?" He smiled and put a hand on my knee, slowly tracing circles on the spot.
"Yes, very good news actually", I approved.
"So what's going to happen with you two now?"
I opened my mouth in an attempt to reply, but Thomas cut me off. "That's none of your business!", he said angrily.
"Woah! Calm down, Shank!", he raised his hands in defeat. "I was talking to her."
"She's tired and going to sleep." Thomas stood up in that very second, giving him a dead glare and grabbing my elbow forcing me up either.
"Thomas...", I started but he dragged me towards the Homestead. "Good night, Gally!", he yelled back at him.
Gally mumbled something about never liking Thomas anyway, but he didn't follow us.
"You're being overreacted", I told him when we finally arrived at the Runner's floor.
I folded my arms, giving him a pissed look.
"No, I'm not! You're the one who doesn't get it yet!", he half yelled half whispered at me. "I'm dead sure he's the one who told Alby! And the one who put the flower in your room!"
"Cut the crap, Thomas! Why would he do that?"
He rolled his eyes in annoyance. "Isn't it obvious already? He likes you and he wants Newt out of his way!"
