Mary was waiting for Betty to come out of her room when she heard a heart to heart between her Alice and Betty. Mary felt left out and sad. But was not about to show it.
"Betty. This coming year is critical for colleges. Grades are important, extracurriculars, athletics. Maintaining a decent character is hugely important, they do look at that." Alice Cooper said, sadly Mary could only hear what they were saying.
"Mom, I'm a sophomore." Betty replied.
"You've accomplished so much, I don't want anything jeopardising that. I mean, just think of you poor sister Polly, she was such a shining star before she let that Blossom boy ruin her, and Mary. She had struck out to many times after Polly and I fear for her, I really do. She is just no getting the right grades and her hair." Alice Cooper dragged on. Mary could feel tears falling down her face which was smudging her makeup.
"Mom, I am not Polly and Mary has so much going for her. Like her music is amazing. You should hear it then you would know." Betty said sticking up for Mary. Mary smiled at her twin sisters niceness.
"You both missed curfew last night." Alice said expressionless.
"By seven minutes." Betty said with a really faint laugh. "We were with Archie, who has red hair yes, but is nothing like Jason Blossom.
"Oh, but sweetie all boys are like Jason Blossom." Alice said before letting out a sigh. "I love you so much, Elizabeth." Mary's heart shattered when she said that as she rarely says love you to Mary. "I just need you to be smart, okay? and stay focused." Mary could hear Alice put pills in Betty's hands. "I refilled you adderall. Seems you forgot to pick up your prescription." Alice said smiling as she turned around to see Mary at the door.
"Good luck today, honey." She said bracing Mary into a warm loving hug. Something Mary never got. "Just remember colleges and if music is something you want to do." She said holding onto Mary's arms and sighing. "Then go for it as long as you remember your studying." Alice said smiling with a tear falling down her face. That meant everything to Mary because Alice always discouraged music, something must have gotten over her.
"I will Mom and thank you." Mary replied teary, choking on her tears of happiness.
"I would love to hear you sing sometimes, how about I pick you up after school and take you home. Then you can sing me your songs." Alice said smiling.
"I would love that." Mary exclaimed forgetting all about her date with Archie.
"Anyways." Alice said wiping away her tears. "You two better leave and go to school!" Alice shouted as Mary and Betty walked down the stairs together.
"Why was mom like that?" Mary asked.
"I don't know." Betty replied. "But I love it." Betty said as she shut the door behind them.

"Whatcha doing?" Mary asked with her head resting on Archie's shoulder. She felt good being close to him and she could tell that Archie felt the same.
"You know what's funny?" Archie said turning around to face Mary, who was dressed in a black, white and yellow top with white skirt dungarees and small high ankled black boots. "That you were tall enough to reach my shoulders." Archie replied laughing as he shut his locker. Mary just rolled her eyes back at her best friend.
"Its these boots, which are really sore to be kicked with, I have heard. Should I try on you?" She said smirking but before Archie could reply Reggie came up to them.
"Bro, you ready for football. I'm not kidding you, dude. You got ripped. Dude, you're a beast. Look at this arm. It's diesel." Reggie exclaimed while prodding his arm.
