Chapter 15: Choking Part One, Auditions and Choking Part Two ✔

Mary was sitting on Betty's bed before school putting on her makeup.

"So what happened when you finished kissing in the booth?" Betty asked leaning on the back of her chair. Mary looked up at Betty from her mirror.

"Nothing, he walked we home at 4 o'clock in the morning." Mary replied bluntly before finishing off her makeup up with light pink lipstick. Betty just raised an eyebrow.

"That is cute!" She squealed. Mary just blushed and started to laugh. Alice came through the door with a basket

"Oh, Mom, I forgot to mention. I invited Jughead over for breakfast." Betty said to her mom, Alice just looked at the girls then continued to fold the clothes up. Betty smirked to Mary.

"Mom what you stop that jesus!" Mary shouted covering her ears while her mom swirled her spoon along the cup creating a horrible noise. Her mom just gave a disapproving nod. 

"So, Jughead I suppose we have you to thank for Betty's ongoing obsession with this Jason Blossom ghoulishness?" Alice asked looking towards Jughead and changing the question. Jughead just stayed quiet while Betty answered for him.

"Actually, Mom, I was the one who asked Jughead to help me write it for the Blue and Gold." Betty replied smiling sweetly. Alice laughed, while Mary looked to Jughead who was terrified. Everyone was of Alice Cooper.

"Relax, Betty. I'm just making conversation." Alice smirked and Betty gave Jughead the signal, slyly.

"Do you guys have a bathroom I could use?" Jughead asked looking to all of the Cooper Girls. Betty quickly got up out of her seat.

"Sure, I'll show you." Betty smiled, Mary just looked down at her blue ripped jeans and tugged on the sleeves of her oversize grey Adidas jumper.

"No, no. I'll show him. Follow me Jughead." Alice replied getting up and walking away while Jughead ran after her. Betty slyly got up and walked over to her mom's bag. 

"I will look out for mom." Mary replied getting up and walking to the doorway. Betty quickly took the photo and the twins ran back to the table. Jughead and their mom got back. "Well mom we better go, school and all. Remember the variety show is tomorrow night and Oscar will be there so if you and dad could talk good about me that would be great." Mary explained while got her brown leather shoulder back which was underneath one of her bunches. 

"Oh yeah, good luck honey!" Alice explained hugging both twins as they left for school. 

"You got them." Jughead asked as they all to Archie's door so they could walk to school together. Betty just nodded as Mary knocked on the door and Fred Andrews answered.

"Hey Mary, looking for Archie?" Fred asked smiling at his sons ex. Mary nodded.

"Yep." Mary smiled and Archie came running down the stairs. He waved to everyone. 

"Good Luck today." Fred said to both Archie and Mary while he clasped Archie on the shoulder. 

"Thank you dad." "Thank you Mr Andrews." Mary and Archie both said at the same time and then Fred Andrews closed the door. 
"You nervous for today?" Mary asked looking up at Archie, while Betty and Jughead walked further ahead.

"Yes. This will be my first time." Archie replied fixing his guitar case straps. 

"I remember my first time." Mary reminisced. Archie raised an eyebrow.

"Oh yeah?" He asked. "Tell me about it, fill me with confidence." Archie continued smiling at his ex-girlfriend.

"Remember when Riverdale used to put on the town talent show, well I was thirteen and my mom and dad entered me for fun. So I sang..." Mary started trying to remember the song but she  couldn't. "Oh I know ain't no mountain high enough." Mary squealed. "I choked when I got the Diana Ross bit and you know I came second because they loved the beginning." Mary replied laughing. As did Archie. "Since then my dad have always encouraged music but it took my mom ages to hear me sing, she wants me to be in journalism. But that is not for me." Mary finished.

"I need to get a football scholarship so I can study music." Archie replied as they walked through the gates of the school. 

"And you will, but I have to go sorry." Mary replied side hugging Archie before she ran off to the back of the school, where she saw Reggie waiting for her. "I have at least ten minutes." She said before she began to kiss Reggie. Reggie just nodded as he picked up Mary  and straddled her. Fifteen minutes later Mary had walked through the doors of the student lounge to see everyone was there. Her lipstick was down her face and her bunches re- done but not neat and she realised that she was wearing Reggie's letterman jacket.  "Shit." She whispered as the gang stared at her.

"Gothic Cooper, spill." Kevin stated resting his chin on the palm of his hand smirking. 

"Come on Carrie Underwood." Veronica said doing the same as Kevin. Archie looked at her upset. Betty mouthed 'run'. While Jughead just smirked and before she could do anything else. Reggie walked through the door and bumped into Mary.

"Run." Mary shouted and her and Reggie turned around and ran down the corridors laughing.

"Right Mary Cooper." Kevin said through the microphone. "What are you doing for us today?" Kevin asked.

Mary spoke into the microphone. "Ah GBF, I think you know." Mary then winked and started to string on the guitar. Reggie cheered at the back and Mary blushed. She sang those three words like she did with Oscar and everyone got up and cheered. 

"Mary your talents amaze me." Kevin smiled. "NEXT!" He shouted and Archie walked on stage. Mary made her way off the stage and down to Reggie and the football team. He swung his arm around Mary's shoulders as they sat down. 

"Archie Andrews." Archie stated sitting down on the stool. Mary could tell he was nervous and felt so bad for him. The football team were all laughing already. 

"Shut up." Mary moaned, smiling over to Archie. Reggie made his grip tighter on Mary's shoulder. "Jealous much." Mary smirked leaning back. 

"Uh, an original song that I wrote called I'll Try." Archie stuttered, everyone continued to laugh. Then to make matters worse Reggie had to shout.

"Try harder! Maybe try not sucking so much." Everyone began to laugh and Mary slouched in her seat so Archie couldn't see her and think it was her shouting at him. 

"Take your time, Archie. Though we do have people waiting." Kevin stated, he also felt bad for Archie. 

"You can do this." Mary cheered clapping her hands. 

"Clock's ticking." Kevin said, Archie began to stutter.

"Excuse me. Sorry, I gotta go." Archie replied before running off the stage. Mary ran after him. She saw him taking comfort in Valerie and decided to go back to Reggie, smiling to herself.
