Knowing the Truth

Ben's POV

Strange. Audrey was talking to Em, not that I wasn't happy, but something seemed off. Audrey never talks to the "new kid", she says and I quote "It's not cool to be seen with them, I have a reputation to uphold you know? Bennyboo?" Ugh, how hate that nickname I've tried to tell her that but she says "Its indearing," yeah right. I got suspicious as Audrey left that old choir room, alone. Okay I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna rid myself of her, but I'm gonna have to break it to her gently. "Hey Audrey? I don't think I can do this anymore, my hearts not in it anymore." I say, Audrey looks furious "Fine!" She screams mumbling under her breath. Now time to find Em. Boy, did I not expect to find her on the ground, sobbing while she tried to pick up, what looked to be the remains of my shredded history book. I wanted to comfort her, to hug her, tell her it was alright. But I couldn't, there was no telling if she was going to lash out from her hazy mind. It looked like she gave up trying to collect the remains of my book, she slumped down against the wall and started to sing, mind you it was a beautiful song but it held so much pain. I started to clap quietly, I must've startled her for she jumped sky high. Her eyes where puffy and red, red from all that sobbing she's been doing "I'm so so sorry Ben. I.... Audrey... Sorry." Em rasped out , throat clearly dry and sore. "It's fine Em, really it's no big deal, it's just a book." I said walking slowly toward Em as if she was a hurt animal cornered. I slowly crouched down on my knees to get on her level, Em maintained my eye contact, still looking a bit frantic/scared. "It's okay Em, your fine." I said as I slowly brought her into my arms, she stiffened at first, but slowly started to relax into me. "It's fine, relax, everything's okay. Nothing can or will touch you as long as I'm here." I whispered into her hair as she slowly drifted off. How was I supposed to explain this to her friends? Hey, Audrey was being mean to Em, and I tried to comfort her then she fell asleep?
