Photo: Alpha Maddox |Yes or No?

It's too warm. I wake up to sunlight on my face and a heavy arm wrapped around me. The last thing I remember is that we were watching a movie. I must have drifted off.

I have to pee, I motion to get up but Maddox pulls me back tighter.

"Um, hi, Maddox. I, uh, need to pee." No response.

I turn my body to face him and am met with a sleeping Maddox. I've yet to take the opportunity to admire his features. His face is gentle yet well-chiseled, his hair an ashy mess. If he really is the person I'm meant to spend the rest of my life with, thank You.

I poke his face in an attempt to wake him. He stirs. His eyes open in a couple of blinks.

"Good morning, little one." He smiles and kisses my cheek. I'm surprised. Does he think I'm someone else? Little one?

"Hi, Maddox. I, uh, need to go to the potty." I say awkwardly.

"Oh.. oh! Sorry, Ascher." He finally lets me go and I stand to do my business.

When I come back to my room, he's sat on the bed, shirtless. Was he shirtless when we were asleep? Oh, those muscles!

I snap my eyes away and stand awkwardly in front of him.

"You're free to look, my mate."

"Sorry, Maddox." I look around awkwardly.

"Look at me and come here." I look at him and sit on the edge of the bed, far from him. He carries me to sit on his lap.

"I'm sorry if sometimes it seems I'm a bit too close to you. Or maybe a little touchy?" I look anywhere else but him, unsure what's happening or what to say.

"We're mates, Ascher. This is natural. I'm giving you all the time you need to adjust.. to freedom, the world.. to me." He pauses, minding how I'm feeling. "But you're my mate, I can't help wanting to be this close to you at all times."

"Okay. I'm.. sorry, Maddox."
"Sorry for what?"

"That I'm like this." Ashamed I must not be acting as expected of a mate.

"Oh no, Ascher. Don't say sorry. I like you the way you are. I'm sorry you had to grow up where you did, I wish I could've saved you earlier."

"I wish I could've saved you earlier." But I couldn't have. Neither packs are none of my business but I'll save that for another day.

I look at Ascher in admiration. She's so full of life and youth. She's been robbed of a good life. She's my mate, I'll give her everything she wants and more. I hear her stomach grumble.

I chuckle. "Do you want some breakfast?"

She looks at me, excitedly, "Yes! What are we having???" Ah, so much excitement over food.

We have our breakfast on the couch, happily in peace. She's telling me about the babies she took care of and how

"One night, there was this man who came from a light pack to claim back his daughter." I snap my full attention back to her.

"What happened?"

"I helped him get his daughter and convinced him to take some more wolf-babies. But I didn't make it out with him so the guards got me and my old Alpha decided to auction me off. That's how Alpha Harry got me."

"I'm still just happy I got to meet you and I'm proud of you for making it through what you went through."

She's doing that smile again. The one that tells me she doesn't know how to respond.

"Do you want to explore the pack today?"

She nods, "I'd love to!"

"Alright, get ready, love. We got you some clothes for today. We'll also go shopping so you can buy everything you need and want."

"Okay, Maddox, thank you." To my surprise, she lunges herself toward me for a hug and she kisses me on the cheek before turning her pretty little butt around and leaving me stunned.

I'm left in my living room with a flustered look on my face, surprised yet absolutely happy she's feeling comfortable with me.

She's a perfect little one.

|Tenth chapter! I've made an outline for the next ten chapters or so. Any lovely ideas are welcome. Could use some twists! Keep the reads and votes coming, they motivate me to push through with this book which is my first attempt in writing one. I think their world is vague but that's okay. If I finish this book, I'll edit in the details to up the resolution of the story. Thanks lovely readers!
