23 Xavier

Abyss. I'm welcomed with sneers and angry faces, led to their Alpha's office. 

"Alpha isn't here yet but he's on his way back.." Everything else the girl in front of me was saying faded into abyss as I pray to the Moon Goddess that Xavier's path doesn't cross with Ascher's. Okay, don't be so paranoid. Everything will be alright.

I wake up to see that we're still on our way so I decide to go back to sleep. I sit up, snapping my eyes wide open when I find that Maddox isn't right next to me. 

"Where are we? Where's Maddox?" When I look behind me, I take note that the once empty back seats are now occupied by two other guards.

"Oh um, uh"

"Luna he.."

Are they miserably failing to come up with a lie?

"The truth." I am pissed.

"Luna, he told us to bring you back to Frees-" His explanation was cut off when our car skids off to the side of the road. 

Darkness.

"Mate."

Worry begins to consume me as I have yet to receive a reply from any of the four who are with Ascher right now. Where are they? Is my mate okay? Did she wake up? Does she know I didn't stick to my word? Is she safe?

I miss her so much I could almost feel her.. right here, right... now.

I follow her scent with haste, she can't be here. 

Once I've made it down the stairs, I'm infuriated with the sight in front of me. 

It's Xavier carrying an unconscious Ascher over his shoulder. 

"Bring her to the chambers and sedate her."

"NO. YOU WILL NOT. SHE IS MY LUNA."

Xavier's attention snaps to an angry midshift Maddox. Xavier smirks, finding the situation completely amusing. 

"Oh how interesting, Maddox. Calm yourself, let's talk."

"No, you will give me back MY mate."

"If I were you, I'd think about my next actions very carefully. You are in the darkest pack of all." Xavier smirks.

Maddox huffs, understanding he's out of his range, even with two guards with him. All of them are feeling weak as it is. 

He didn't come to fight, he came to talk. He puts on a calm facade, already thinking of how to get Ascher out of this situation.

"Good. Follow me to my office."

"I want her, now."

"Is that what you came here for?" Xavier asks smugly.

"You fucking.." Xavier's winding him up for fun now. Maddox has his fists clenched, knuckles slowly turning white.

"Have a drink, Maddox. Let loose, we have far too many things to.. negotiate."

As if on cue, a girl appears in the office, a tray with two glasses of alcohol in hand.

Xavier drinks his glass first, an action saying you can trust me. Maddox follows suit.

"What did you really come all the way here for?"

"I came for Rosie, Harry's mate."

Xavier chuckles. "Oh how ironic, isn't it?" 

Maddox grinds his teeth, his patience being tested to its limit. 

"And what might you have to interest me in that negotiation?"

What is it with dark Alphas and deals?

"What do you want for her?"

"To be honest, you can have her. I have no use for her anymore and you've already given me your mate." 

Maddox stands angrily, ready to put up a fight but the room begins to spin. 

Maddox falls to the ground but without mindlinking his guards. 

Before darkness consumes him, he can't believe the next words out of Xavier's mouth

"She's my mate too."

I wake up in my own bed with the worst headache of my life. I try to remember what happened prior to this moment and I jump up and out of bed in anger. I summon my pack's inner circle.

I've been drugged but thankfully brought to my own pack free from physical injury but oh how my heart bleeds for Ascher. 

My inner circle consists of my parents, a few elders and those who hold a rank within my pack. My two most important questions are 

How do I get Ascher back from a pack that cuts my strength in half?

And

WHY THE FUCK DOES MY MATE HAVE ANOTHER MATE?

"Alpha, you should also know that Alpha Xavier sent us back with Alpha Harry's mate."

After the meeting, I make my way to see Rosie. Wondering how she's been all these years away from her mate. I've got my entire inner council thinking of how to get Ascher back, a question we failed to come up with an answer to even after two hours of shouting at everyone. My mum decided we won't get anywhere while my anger consumes me and she dismissed me from the meeting.

From the elders, I learned that double mates happen every few centuries but it's rare for a Luna to have two Alpha mates. They advised that the Moon Goddess always has a purpose and all shall become clear to me once I'm cleansed from all these negative emotions fueling my every thought and I'm back to being the Alpha of the lightest pack.

I knock at Rosie's door.

I hear a faint "come in" and am surprised with the figure that welcomes me. She's lost herself.

She's almost skin and bones, gray and she honestly looks like she'll die any moment. My heart hurts seeing her like this, especially knowing how she looked so full of life and happy when she was with Harry.

This can't happen to my Ascher. I won't let Xavier.. I decide to halt the feeling of rage before it gets to me. I am the Alpha of Frees.

I rush to envelope Rosie in my arms, my eyes tearing. She welcomes my embrace and in a while, I hear her quiet sobs. 

I spend the rest of daylight talking with her. She's been listening more than talking. Her experience in Xavier's pack far too traumatic to talk about for now but she shared a few things. She wants to go back to Harry but not in her current state. I tell her I've agreed to an Alpha's deal and she'll have a few weeks before I'm forced to deliver her to Harry. 

It's night, talking with Rosie has calmed me down and tomorrow I'm ready to tackle this situation with a clearer mind. 

Good night, Ascher. I'm sorry. I hope he's not hurting you. Please know I love you and I will come for you. Hold on, love.

I cry pray to the Moon Goddess as I pretend to be talking to Ascher every now and then. 

When my eyes tire, I allow sleep to flow through me.

I'll save you, my little one.
