My special classes are over and there's two weeks before uni starts. Maddox and I have shared a few sweet kisses over the past weeks but never anything more. I'm happy he's letting me take my time, as slow as it is. 

"Hey Maddox.. what will we be doing for the next two weeks before uni?"

"Hmmm, what do you want to do?" 
"Maybe we..." Travel? I don't want him to leave his pack for me. 

"We can makeout." He finishes, wiggling his eyebrows while moving towards me. 

"No...." I reply, holding my hands up playfully while walking slowly in reverse. 

When I see him motion to run, I run out of the house.

"Help me, kids!!! Distract Alpha!" I shout while passing by a group of kids playing by a huge fountain. At this, they drive their attention towards the tall man running after me. 

I continue my run as I hear a constant shouting of "Alpha! Alpha!" and sneak a peek towards a helpless Maddox in a pool of little kids. 

I run to the trees and come to a stop at a clearing with a little lake. Seems isolated. I bask in the silence and sun until I hear some shuffling behind me. 

"You found me, Maddox. Come out!" I smile, surrendering with tiredness from that short run.

Out comes a huge white wolf. 

"Maddox?" It walks slowly, almost as if I'm its prey.

Inching closer to me, I scream as it lunches itself towards my body. 

With my eyes closed, expecting the worse, I feel a tongue licking my face and a fluffy head snuggling my neck and chest. I open one eye and take a peek at the same blue eyes I have gotten used to for the past three weeks. Struck by recognition, I reach for his face and hold it in my hands.

"Maddox, you scared me." I say calmly.

"Your wolf is very nice." I smile as he licks my cheek.

"And fluffy!" 

Suddenly, I feel a pain in my body and my sight flashes black then back then black.

She's shifting. 

"Beta, get the pack doctor and some nurses and come here. Ascher is shifting." I mindlink my beta. 

"Yes, Alpha." 

Her wolf is finally resurfacing. I keep contact with her to help her through the pain. A mate's touch eases their mate's pain. I watch her body bend and break wildly, slowly. It will pass, just like it does for everyone but Ascher's first shift might be different. 

"Alpha." The doctor steals my attention away from Ascher. I see my Beta and three nurses behind him.

"Dr. Steele, how different will this shift be?"
"We can't exactly be sure, Alpha, but she'll be fine. It might take longer or be a bit more painful for her but it will pass."

After an hour, her shift finishes. She's a beautiful ashy gray wolf. 

"Why isn't she waking up?"

"Alpha, she's gone into comatose. We'll have to take her to the ICU."

I hold the fur by her jaw. "You'll be okay, little one." 

We carry her to the medical wing. 

"Why hasn't she shifted back?" 

"She's tired, Alpha. She's okay but she needs plenty of time to recover." 

Over the past hours, Ascher has shifted back and forth from human to wolf. Luckily, Dr. Steele is a bright female doctor and I've ordered for the nurses catering to my Ascher to be all-female. 

Now, we wait.
