I wait anxiously for their arrival at the Elders' Citadel. My arms and soul aching for my unmarked and unmated mate, hoping she's at the very least healthy - emotionally, physically and mentally.
I stand up from my seat, guards following my every move as I pace around the large lounge. Is she okay? Did she accept Xavier over me? Does she hate me?
As more thoughts begin to race themselves against each other, the familiar scent of Ascher overwhelms my senses.
She's here.
My world stops but my body comes to her, almost in slow motion. I go through sets of doors until I find myself at the entrance, on top of a small flight of stairs, my eyes landing on Ascher - clinging to Xavier, in his arms, asleep.
My heart breaks at the sight. The Elders greeting Xavier acknowledging my presence as Xavier's attention goes to me, his mouth forming a smirk.
I feel one of the guards put a hand on my shoulder and I understand. I stand defeated, turning to walk inside until I hear a little somebody's footprints rushing toward me with a continuously excited "Appa! Appa! Appaaa!!!"
She runs to me and I bend down a little to catch her in time.
My sweet angel, back in my arms again. The scent of her hair, her petite body and this hug that I've been longing for for the longest time. She hugs me tight and I do the same, wishing the worst is over but we aren't out of the woods yet. Things still need handling. She clings her legs around me and snuggles to my chest.
"I've missed you sooo much, Maddy!" She says, hugging me just a bit tighter and leaving a sweet kiss on my cheek.
"I've missed you very much as well, little bug." I smile and kiss her forehead as she giggles, returning to her comfy position.
I acknowledge the Elders in front of me, dismissing Xavier's stoic face. I don't miss the cold metal around my angel's neck, evidence she's better with me than him.
The guards escort me to court, letting me carry Ascher.
As I stand on my side and Xavier stands on his, one of the Elders, Eiriel comes to my side. "I'm sorry, love, but we'll have to go through this with her out of court." She says in a whisper, sympathetic.
My Ascher's fallen asleep. I allow Eiriel to take her out of court, transferring Ascher into her arms.
Shorter than usual but I've just logged on after months and saw this as a draft. I'll have to reread my own book since I might have forgotten the plot I've planned. Here's to all the messages and comments, thank you for your support.
