We went around the Frees Pack and I found it's much livelier than Alpha Harry's. The people are kinder, warmer. They approach and talk with you more, for sure. Maddox has introduced me as his mate and people were more than happy to congratulate us and to hug me tight. It's been a very welcoming morning. 

Maddox has been telling me stories about his childhood, how happy he was growing up, how he couldn't have asked for better parents. His parents only had him and adopted several others. 

"Are you okay, Ascher?"

"Yeah, why?" I fake a smile.

"Because you're fiddling with your fingers, baby." I look down, not wanting to talk about negative things.

"You can tell me anything, my mate." He assures me, cupping my face in both his hands.

"Well, I've never met my parents or anything you had growing up. I feel.. sad and sorry for myself. And I'm sorry I don't have much to tell you about my childhood.." He smiles, apologetically, sympathetically. 

"Ascher.. It's okay. You're my little one now. You can live the childhood you didn't have. I'll take care of you and love you. Do you want that?"

I smile shyly at him, wishing I'm not blushing right now. "Yes, I'd love that."

At that, we hold hands on our way to the shops to pick out things I need for my new home at his house. I ask Maddox about his life. I learned he went to school.. to university and he got a business degree. 

"Can I go to university too?" I ask, curious.

"Yes, you could but you don't have to."

"But what if I want to study?" 

"Okay, Ascher. Let's get you a laptop as well. If you find something you really want to learn, I'll think about getting you into university." 

We finish up with shopping and I bought plenty of clothes and learned about makeup but didn't buy much of that. We went to the grocery and I got plenty of food, Maddox said it's okay because he never stocks his fridge anyway.

We just got home and it's now time for dinner. Maddox says he's making me his special surf and turf. I'm sat at the bar, searching degrees. 

"Why did you want your business degree?" He turns to me. 

"Because I needed to learn to run my pack, to provide. My dad took the same path as did all the other previous Alphas."

"What did the Lunas take?"

"Nothing, they don't have to have a degree. They just assume the role and responsibilities of Luna." Hmm.. that's.. sexist?

"Oh.. do you not want me to go to university?" I wonder, curious about what his expectations of me might be.

He smiles at me with a small sigh "You can do whatever you want, love. I'm just here to support you with whatever you decide." With a tiny kiss to my forehead, he turns his attention back to his cooking. After a while, 

"Okay then, I want to do a business degree too. I want to learn.." I squint my eyes towards my screen "International Business and Management." We talk more about it, he seems to be on edge about it but I don't give up the fight until

"Okay, I'll talk to one of the university administrators after dinner. For now," He moves my laptop away and sets the food in front of me "it's time for my little mate to enjoy her dinner."

I smile and move towards his face to give him a small peck on the cheek. "Thank you, Maddox. This all smells amazing!" 

I've learned that he feels warmer whenever I initiate physical contact and he makes that goofy smiling face that he's doing right now. 

"What does your wolf look like?" I ask him with a half-full mouth of food.

He smiles. "You'll see. I'll shift with you when you regain your wolf." 

"I'll regain my wolf??"  

"Yes, you will. Your old pack suppresses its members wolves so they can have their control over you. It's taking some time because your wolf genes have been suppressed since you were born. We're not sure when your wolf will come back but she will." I smile at this.

"I can't wait." Maddox suddenly alerts his eyes to the door. 

"My parents are here." He informs me and too quickly, there is a knock on the door.

Maddox comes to open it and I hide behind him, unprepared for guests. 

"Maddox, darling, what's all this talk I hear about you finding your mate? Why haven't you told your dear old mum??"

"Mum, I just met her, I didn't want to frighten her."
"Oh, nonsense, honey! We've been waiting for your mate a long time now so stop hiding her!"

I come out of hiding from behind Maddox and spot a lovely looking couple. They look very Frees Pack to me. 

"Um.." I look at Maddox, unsure and shy.

"Hello, love! I'm Julia and this grumpy old man over here is Steven." She smiles warmly at me and I start to get comfortable with her presence.

"Hello, I'm Ascher. It's nice to meet you, Julia." I smile at her but come back behind Maddox.

"I see you two are having dinner. Come, come, let's all eat and talk."

We had a fun dinner and I enjoyed watching all their interactions. His parents are nice. Steven warmed up eventually and he actually has quite good humor on him. They told a lot of stories about Maddox growing up and I like him a bit.

"Thank you for your lovely company, Ascher."

"We'll see you soon."

With that, they're out the house.

"That was fun." I tell Maddox, smirking.

"Stop it you, the only part you enjoyed was laughing at younger Maddox." 

"They were great, I learned a lot about you that you wouldn't have told me." 

"Okay, okay. Go get ready for bed. I'll give one of the uni administrators a call, like I promised you." I smile, I almost forgot.

"Okay." I do my business in the bathroom and when I make my way back to Maddox

"Hello, Ascher. You can go to uni but since it won't start until another two months, they said you have to take some special classes given as you haven't really gone to school."

"Hmmm, okay. That's understandable." I let out a long yawn.

"You're sleepy, princess. Come to bed, I'll read you a story." I eye him. I bet he just wants me to go to bed with him without any arguments again. But I oblige anyway, curious what the story might be.

We're halfway through a Dr. Seuss book and all the rhyming has made me very sleepy. I start fading into sleep with my head on Maddox's chest.
