Juvia's POV
"Mommy, can I have more hotdogs, please?" Autumn asked pointing at the platter of hotdogs. We were at the dining area for breakfast; Autumn and Storm are seated beside me. Luckily, there's no Gray to be found. I haven't seen him this morning yet, but I guess that's good.
"Sure, honey. But we have to hurry up, it's time for you to go to school." I said as I put a hotdog on her plate. She nodded and continued to eat.
"How about you Storm? Hotdogs?" I asked him, but he only shook his head.
"Mommy can I ha--oh, good morning, papa!" She said cheerfully. I suddenly felt petrified and nervous. The ice king is here!
"Good morning, kids." He said and smiled genuinely at them.
I ran a hand through Storm's black locks to catch his attention and told him, "Storm, say good morning to Daddy," He sighed as he let go of his fork and looked at him with a straight face.
"Good morning." Storm said with a lowly and void of any cheers. Well okay, we need to work on that. Gray just nodded at him. I looked at Gray stealthily. He is wearing a crisp black suit. Despite the layers of clothing, I could still see that he keeps his body in shape, after all this time. My eyes scanned his face--his distinct jawline, sharp nose, leading to a pair of lips that can speak sweet nothings to any woman. I know better. He could've been one step closer to perfection if only he wasn't so sinister. I took a few seconds to look at his piercing dark blue eyes. They were so...so dull.
"Good morning." I said calmly to him. He just looked at me and didn't bother answering. He just sat close to the kids and talked to the them. Wow, at least I tried being civil in all of this.
I saw the maids were busy cleaning the kitchen and washing the dishes. I took this opportunity to get away from the awkwardness. I stood up and approached one of the maids.
"Do you need any help?" I asked her politely. I saw her eyes widen at my question. I should help, too. This isn't my house. I'm just staying here for my kids. I don't have the right to act as if I earned all of these.
"W-we got this, miss! You're going to be late, if you would insist!" She said. I looked at my watch. Maybe it's still ea-- shit! I'm going to be late!
_______
"Bye-bye, Mommy!" Autumn waved at me before she hopped in the black Camry. I waved back at them as I watched the car leave. I sighed. I used to be the one who always took them to their school. We were always walking together or taking the cab or the bus if we were running late. Now they have Gray's car to service them. It's not exactly a welcome change.
It's my turn to leave. I fixed my cardigan and wore my bag on my shoulder. I then finished going down the flight of stairs leading to the driveway. Then, I heard hurried steps behind me until the person blocked my way.
"Ma'am, let us drop you off to your office. It is too far from here." It was one of Gray's chauffeurs.
"Ah no, thank you. I'll just walk until the next block. I could hail a cab from there. Thank you for offering, though." I replied and smiled. Honestly, it's not that far. If I'm about to be dead late, I can always run and hustle into a cab.
"Are you sure? We can drop you. Mr. Gray is about to leave so--"
"No, really, I'm fine." I reiterated. A car shared with Gray? Nope. I don't think so. The tension between the two of us is too volatile, as of the moment. The kind chauffeur looked at me worriedly. I smiled at him to reassure him that it was all right.
"But ma'am--"
"Don't mind her if she doesn't want to." Gray said. He was making his way down the stairs. "Let's go, Reginald. I don't like wasting time. I still have important business to deal with, and I don't have time to share a car with such an impracticable person." He stopped at the last step of the stairs and glared at me.
