Gray's POV
"Why are you here?" She said with a voice that is so cold. I stayed silent as I don't know what to say, and where to start. My mind is filled with many questions I want to know the answers to, yet I don't know how to put into words.Kagura seemed to have sensed the tension in the air between Juvia and I as she bowed to her client and excused herself, "Pardon me, Juvia-dono, I shall be outside."
Juvia glared at her, "You're not getting off the hook, Kagura. Why did you bring this man here?"
Kagura seemed to be trying to form her words. After all, she couldn't just say that her mentor had forced her into a favor that goes against her client's trust.
"Don't blame her. I forced her to bring me here." I covered for the lawyer.
Juvia scoffed, "I see that you still charm women into bending to your will. I'm not surprised that it still works well for you, even after all these years."
Her words are testing my temper but now is not a good time to lose my cool, so I said, "That's not how it is."
"Yeah? Do you expect me to believe that? I hope you didn't forget the things you've done to me some years ago."
"Believe what you want."
Juvia glared at Kagura who still had her head bowed down, probably because of shame.
"Leave, Kagura. We will talk about this another day."
Kagura nodded and said in a sheepish voice, "Thank you, and I'm sorry, Juvia-dono."
With that, Kagura has left me with Juvia. I looked at her surroundings. The room was actually a suite. Her bed was in front of everything else in the room, but that's probably because she's still considered a patient in this place and doctors would like to be able to check on her conveniently. There was a small hall that leads to a small living room and a small kitchen area. The space had a lot of windows and has a home-like charm to it, probably to keep patients like her at ease.
Then, I proceeded to observe Juvia. I looked at her body and I noticed that she has gotten thinner and she looked frail. Despite all of that, she still is beautiful...but there is something that caught my attention and made me frown. She has many rashes on her skin, some of which had become wounds, and exhaustion is evident on her face. She's trying to hide it by being tough. Something tugs at my heart. All this time, she's suffering like this?
"If you are here to just stare at me, I don't have time to waste. As you can see, my time is running out." She said the last part with a hint of melancholy. I can feel the last words she spoke have another meaning.
"Don't worry. If you are here because you feel sympathy for me, then you can do me a favor by signing the divorce papers I gave you and our connection will be cut off. You don't need to put up with me anymore." After she said that, she turned her back to me to go to another part of her room. But when she is about to take another step, she suddenly stumbled. That made me run to her and hold her, but she flinched.
"Don't touch me! " She hissed and sent me a cold glare. I looked in her eyes, not finding my reflection like before, like it used to... She is colder than before, too far from the Juvia I knew.
"Move!" She said monotonously. I hold her arms tightly as I turned her to face me.
"What the hell Gray?! Let me go!" She said as she tried to escape my grip, but I just tightened it.
"No, I won't cut it... I won't cut my ties with you. I would never do that. I won't sign those papers, Juvia. I never will. You are the mother of my children and you're still my wife, so don't tell me that I have nothing to do with you anymore, because damn it Juvia, I won't let you walk out of my life again!" I exclaimed. She seems surprised with what I just said.
"Am I hearing you right? Didn't you tell me before that you only care about your kids and you don't give a fuck about me? If you're worrying about me because I'm their mother, you can stop now. I can take care of myself. I have been able to, for the past few years, even with my state of health. So don't worry, I won't take them away from you. You can have custody. Please take care of them."
"You can take care of yourself?" I scoffed, "Look at you! You look so fragile and weak. You can't even walk straight without holding onto something. Is it because of the things they put you through? Is that what you call healing? Damn, why did you even agree to become a test subject when you're suffering like this?!"
"Because I don't have a choice! I want to live longer for my babies! Porlyusica was the only one who answered my help because the one who I thought would help me was the one who had hurt me the most." I stayed silent. I felt like my tongue retreated and won't move because of what she said.
"Just enough, Gray. Stop saying implausible things. I can't believe you anymore because whenever I do, I always get hurt. Please just sign the papers and let's end this once and for all." She said. I slowly let go of her arms. Well, what should I expect? That she would believe me after what I did to her, after being a jerk? This is just right. I didn't believe her before, so I guess this is my consequence. But I'm here to challenge her beliefs.
"I hope before you leave Fiore, you have already signed the divorce papers and custody papers so my lawyer can have them processed immediately, without having to wait for these to be mailed to her. It won't cost you a penny and I'm not taking any money from you, either." She muttered and was about to go to her living room.
"If you don't believe me, I'll prove it to you. I don't care how many times you push me away, but I won't leave Fiore. I won't let you face this all by yourself. I'll be here beside you until you're well enough to come back to us. I promised our children that I will come back to them with you in tow." I said and smirked. She look at me and raised her eyebrow.
"I can prove it to you, Juvia."
I can do it and this time, I won't ever give up.
Juvia's POV
I thought he was only joking. I thought that he wouldn't take his words seriously, but it seems like I'm wrong. Because here he is, pestering me.
"Hey, I bought you fruits. I looked it up in the internet and learned that these will be good for you. That and I also bought you new pillows and a quilted blanket so you'll be more comfortable—"
