A/N: Jughead is South-side High's trouble maker and Archie is the star of Riverdale High. Who would think the two teens would be friends, or that they would both hope for more. I would recommend that you listen to 'On top of the world' by Imagine Dragons whilst reading this.
"You got in another fight?" Archie asked Jughead.
"What no 'hello' or 'it's nice to see you'?" Jughead asked sarcastically. "But yeah I did." He shrugged like it was no big deal.
"And people wonder why you got kicked out of Riverdale High." Archie sighed.
"Well we can't all be as perfect as you." Jughead said, also sarcastically. "The guy was asking for it, calling me names. They even threw skittles at me and shouted 'taste the rainbow'."
"So you started a fight?" Archie asked.
"I started a fight." Jughead repeated. "And I won it too." He added.
"Jughead," Archie sighed. "You got hurt." Archie lightly traced the purple bruise on his friend's cheek. Jughead froze at his friend's delicate touch. "Jughead." Archie repeated with a disappointed look.
"Archie." Jughead said, mimicking his friend's tone. "Anyway on a more positive note, I joined the football team."
"I thought you said football was lame." Archie said raising an eyebrow.
"The Bulldogs are lame." Jughead corrected. "You getting boring Archie." Jughead smile widened under his friend's glare. "So I got you a ticket for our school football match tomorrow."
Archie groaned. "I hate football, Jughead." He pointed out.
"Yeah but you love me." Jughead said, slightly more hopeful than he should be. "I'm on the team and I need my lucky charm."
"Please don't call me your lucky charm." Archie pleaded.
"Are you coming or not?" Jughead asked impatiently.
"I'll come but I'll hate it." Archie said.
"Love that attitude." Jughead said sarcastically. But in his mind he was cheering.
"That your boyfriend in the stand?" Reggie asked, Jughead would have tackled him if Joaquin wasn't holding him back. Instead he settled on a bitch glare Archie would be proud of.
"We are a team, so act like it." Joaquin snapped. The whistle went off and the game began, they played well and were seven points ahead by half time. Since Jughead wasn't interested in the cheerleaders a.k.a the sparkles, he met up with Archie at half time.
"You enjoying the game?" He asked Archie who shrugged.
"No idea what's going on." He explained. "What about you?"
"Not really. This idiot, Reggie is being an ass-hole." Jughead sighed.
"Homophobe?" Archie asked, Jughead nodded.
"Like 99.9% of this place. You know what we should do?" Archie shook his head. "Kiss." Jughead had only meant it as a thought but now the idea was out in the open it didn't sound so bad.
"Excuse me?" Archie asked. Jughead smiled. Archie was especially cute whilst blushing.
"Kiss." Jughead repeated slowly. "Their reaction would be funny." And I'm in love with you. But Jughead managed to keep this thought in his head.
"Okay." Archie agreed. Jughead smiled. "At the end of the game on the field." Both grinned. Not even Reggie's comment about rainbow vomit could wipe the I'm-finally-gonna-kiss-Archie smile off of his face.
Jughead played well for the rest of the game. Even Archie who knew zero about football could see that. "We won!" He told Archie.
"I saw." Archie laughed. Jughead took his hand and dragged him to the centre of the field. He wrapped his arms around Archie's waist and kissed him. They both forgot it wasn't real and that most of the crowd was watching them and just got lost in the kiss. Pulling away felt wrong but air was running low and Jughead intended to kiss Archie again. Which, yes, did include breathing.
"Would now be a bad time to admit I'm in love with you?" Jughead asked.
"It's the perfect time." Archie replied. "I love you."
"I love you too." Jughead said. In that moment everything was perfect and Jughead felt on top of the world.
If you asked him what he liked the best about football he would grin and tell you it was his boyfriend's traditional after game kiss.
