Veronica awoke for the second time that morning to the aroma of fresh coffee and blueberry and lemon pancakes wafting into the bedroom from the kitchen.
The first time had been about thirty minutes previously when Archie had gotten up.
"Stay in bed," he'd whispered as he pulled the covers off and slid into his slippers, "I'm bringing you breakfast."
"I love you." Veronica had murmured, before rolling into the warm spot in the bed her husband had left and pulling the soft covers up to her ears again.
Now she wanted more than anything to get up and get coffee into her body as soon as possible, but she knew Archie would be upset if she ruined the breakfast in bed he'd been planning. But no sooner had she thought than Archie came waltzing into the room with a tray piled high with blueberry and lemon pancakes, a pot of hot coffee, and two mugs bearing the words 'his' and 'hers'.
"Happy Valentine's Day!" He sang, placing the tray on Veronica's lap.
"Aw thank you." Veronica gushed, tilting her head up for a kiss, "You're the best."
Archie sat down on the bed beside his wife and started pouring the coffee. "Well it's our first Valentine's Day as husband and wife, so I thought we should do something special. I know I said I was going to plan a big romantic day, but then I decided we should decide together what we want to do." He handed Veronica a steaming mug.
Veronica took it, smiling. "I personally would love to just spend time with you. Maybe go to Sweet water River and take a walk, then stop for lunch at Pop's. Then when we get home I could make a nice dinner. Watch Netflix, and whatever that leads to..." She lifted an eyebrow suggestively, smirking.
Archie laughed. "That sounds perfect." He leaned over, placing a hand on his wife's cheek, pulling her into a deep kiss.
"I love you."
"And I love you."
