A/N: AU where the confrontation during Jughead's party led to Jughead being put in hospital with a broken leg. Now at Riverdale High Veronica's getting jealous with all the attention Jughead's getting. (Jughead and Chuck both attended South-Side High before the incident. Also Betty and Jughead aren't dating.)
Veronica's POV-
I can't believe this. At first I thought the other girls were acting on the polite and generous stereotype. It made sense with Jughead being on crutches and cuts and bruises from Chuck's attack for girls to offer to carry his books. After second period, Ginger, a brunette Vixen asked if we were dating, in which Jughead explained we weren't. ("I just know her best and forced her to give me a tour. I'm basically enslaving her!" to be exact.) And somehow that news spread and Jughead was getting a lot of female attention. Which totally doesn't make me jealous!
"Ronnie wait up!" I give Jughead a (hopefully) flirty smile as he catches up.
"Hey Romeo Reporter." Jughead rolls his eyes at the nickname, due to the time he spends working for the blue and gold and the way Betty calls him Romeo. "Want me to carry your books?" I offer.
"Thanks." Jughead passes me his stack of books and I take his bag as well. "You don't have to do this, you know?"
"Do what?" I ask innocently.
"Carry my stuff. And spread the word because everyone here is too nice." Jughead jokes.
"What's wrong with nice?" I ask. "And maybe we're just pretending to be nice in order to give you fake comfort before we eat you." Jughead laughs and laughing makes him extra handsome. He's always handsome, not that I'm complaining.
"Your whole school is in a plan to eat me?" Jughead asks in what I guess is supposed to be a serious tone, which fails due to his adorable giggles. Seriously adorable. Yep, I got it bad.
"I have no idea what you're talking about. On an unrelated note, want to visit the kitchen?" Jughead giggle again. I take this opportunity to sneak a peek at him. His face is still angelic but covered in fading bruises from Chuck's attack at Jughead's birthday party. I know they'll be gone soon, which will make Jughead happier because he always winces when he catches his reflection.
"Don't." Jughead pleads in a soft voice.
"Don't what?"
"Look at my bruises. I know people do it, but please, not you." Jughead looks down and sniffles. "I don't want you to pity me like everyone else."
"Nobody pities you Jughead." I tell him softly.
Jughead shakes his head, "Why else would they offer me compliments and help?"
I laugh but stop at Jughead's sad expression. "You don't see it?" I ask rhetorically. "They're flirting with you."
"What?"
"Jughead they're flirting with you." I repeat. "Because your handsome and funny and generally perfect."
"You think that about me?"
"Y-y-yes." I stutter. COURAGE. I take a step forward and place my hands on his waist, pulling him closer. And then we kiss.
"I think that about you too." Jughead tells me as we touch foreheads. "Would you like to be my Juliet?" Jughead asks, half joking.
"I would." I agree, kissing him again. "Does this mean I can tell all the girls to leave you alone?" I ask.
"Definitely."
