Betty curled up in the armchair in the living room, wrapping a blanket around her body. Archie was asleep in bed, but Betty hadn't been able to fall asleep. She pulled her legs up under her and felt the cool breeze drift through the dark room. She watched the city lights through the window and listened to the cars and sirens and general Riverdale noise. She heard footsteps and Archie called softly, "Betty! Where are you?"
"I'm in here." Betty answered. Archie came into the room and made his way over to the large armchair.
"Why're you out here?" Archie asked, sitting down and wrapping his arms around his wife.
"Couldn't sleep." Betty replied, laying his head against Archie's shoulders. Archie shivered.
"It's cold. Is the window open?"
Betty nodded, pulling his blanket out so it was wrapping them both up. Archie rested his head on Betty's and closed his eyes.
Archie opened the door to the apartment as quietly as he could. It was already midnight, and although Archie was just getting home from rehearsal, Betty was already sound asleep. He walked down the dark hallway and entered their bedroom to find Betty curled up and sleeping.
Archie crept around the room, taking his shirt off and putting sweatpants on and putting his bag away, trying to make as little noise as possible.
He crawled into bed, pulling the covers up over himself and scooting closer to his wife. Betty was laying on her side, one arm under her pillow and the other flung forward, hanging off the bed. Archie wrapped an arm around Betty's torso and pressed his face against her warm back. Closing his eyes, he listened to Betty's steady breathing and felt her comforting warmth until he drifted off to sleep.
"Hey Archie?" Betty began, looking up at her fiance. Archie was sitting on the bed, leaning against their fluffy pillows, and Betty was laying with her head in Archie's lap, stretched out length-wise across the bed.
"Hhmm?" Archie replied, stroking Betty's hair.
"Should we invite Cheryl to the wedding?"
"Why on Earth would we do that?" Archie asked in surprise.
"Well, because we're inviting so many people from High school-Reggie, Moose, not to mention the original gang, I feel like we need to invite Cheryl."
"She's never been nice to us, Betty." Archie pointed out.
"That's true." Betty admitted, nodding.
"But let's not talk about this now, okay?" Archie suggested, "Let's just relax and lay here because I'm exhausted.
Betty agreed, and lifted her head up to give Archie a small kiss.
Betty's favourite part of the day was crawling into bed with her fiance. Curling up with her head on Archie's chest, one arm stretched across Archie's body, and one leg thrown over Archie's legs. And Archie would place one hand on Betty's back, gently tracing his fingers up and down Betty's spine until they both fell asleep. That was the best part of Betty's day, and she never took it for granted.
Betty and Archie were sound asleep, laying beside each other on their queen-size bed. Suddenly, Betty woke, feeling a tug on her arm. Groggily, she opened her eyes and saw her five year old son, Holden, staring up at her.
"What's wrong?" She asked, squeezing his hand.
"I wanna sleep with you and daddy." Holden told her, shivering in his nightgown.
"Okay, but only if you promise to sleep." Betty whispered. Holden promised, and Betty lifted him up into the bed between herself and Archie.
Holden made himself comfortable, nestling his face into Betty's chest and rubbing her ear with one hand. Archie had woken up by the commotion and rolled over, placing a hand on his son's back, rubbing gently. He and Betty made eye contact over Holden's head and smiled at each other.
