grabbing the plate of food and my drink i walk around the room before just giving up and walking over to my cousin's friend. he looks up and notices me before looking in my hands and at the plate of food.
at the same time we say, "there's no place to sit at" and "i don't know where any open seats are." we laugh together before i just stand there.
"you're making me nervous just standing there," he says and moves back a bit.
"can't you tell i'm nervous?" i ask him and point to my face. "i can feel my face heating up every second."
he laughs before i leave and sit next to my cousin on the fireplace. for twenty minutes i sit there next to him as we talk and then, eventually, separate and go talk to our own friends.

after i read the tweet, i turn around and am surprised that maya and jess, both, are standing there with smiles on their faces. i make an unheard noise before jumping on them and tackling them in hugs. being away from your best friends can get unbearable.
that thing with my cousin's friend really did happen though. 5/13/17
