The next day was what I dreaded. The idea of walking through the school, knowing that by the end of homeroom word would be out that Heath and I were dating. Potentialy even that I was in the group.
I arrived at school, parking up next to Heath's truck and began to feel the nerves flare up in my stomach, my whole body beginning to shake with fear.
I sighed to myself and climbed out of my car, Heath and the others waiting for me.
"You ready?" Scotty asked me and I shook my head.
"What's wrong?" Heath asked, catching the look on my face.
"I-I can't do it. I can't do this." I said, climbing back into my car, locking the doors. Homeroom started in less than five minutes and now was not the time to be flaking out.
A knock on the passengers window startled me and I looked to the right to see Heath looking in.
"Please" He mouthed and I sighed, unlocking the door and allowing him to climb in before starting the car and driving off.
"Woah, what the fuck Allie!" He exclaimed, flying back in his seat.
"I can't be there Heath, I can't do this! Not now" I said.
"Just pull over and let's talk" He said and I pulled over onto the side of the road, tears threatening to spill over.
"Al, we've got five minutes to get to class. You know if I'm late, Adams is gonna get me suspended" He said.
"Heath I can't reveal to the entire school that we're dating" I said.
"Why not? You had no problems with it yesterday." He said.
"I had problems. The problem being Elton and the other nerds!" I said.
"What does he have to do with it?" Heath asked.
"He told me I was a hero. That I didn't know what I'd done for kids like him. For me to turn around a few days later and reveal I'm dating you?" I said, emphasizing the 'you' which was clearly the wrong thing to do as Heath's face dropped.
"What?" I asked.
"So it is about dating 'Heath Hussar, one of The Boys', isn't it?" He said glumly.
"No! Of course it's not!" I promised but he sighed.
"Don't be stupid, of course it is. I should have known this wasn't going to work" He said.
"Heath" I said and he continued to look away from me.
"Heath please" I begged, him still not looking.
"Baby" I whispered, desperate for him to just look at me. Because when he looked at me, I knew nothing else in my life mattered more than him.
Sure enough Heath's eyes looked up into mine.
"I like you for you, okay? I don't give a shit who 'Heath Hussar' is because Heath is all I ever wanted. I guess I just have a lot on my emotional plate at the moment and I don't know what to do. No one knowing about us was just a way to ensure everything in my life didn't feel like it was falling apart. But I don't care anymore because I know I like you Heath and I don't care who else knows it" I said and he sighed, reaching for my right hand and taking it in his, making me turn in my seat.
"It's going to be shit. Elton may not talk to you for a while but he'll come around eventually. Everyone else will throw their opinions, insults and remarks our way but just remember how we feel sitting here right now because we get that all the time baby." He said and I nodded as he pressed a kiss to my hand.
