Chapter 21 ~ Tension
[Skylar’s POV]
“I hope you’ll wake up soon. It’s been almost two weeks.” A voice spoke. Gold’s.
I opened my eyes and found myself back in my bed, back in Platina’s mansion. I’m still wearing the same clothes I wore, and the body suit was on a hanger on the handle of my clost. Everything looked pretty much the same. Except that Gold was on the other bed, instead of Silver. He was half-sitting half-lying on his bed. There were bandages on his arms, and he was shirtless as well, exposing a bandaged part of his stomach.
But what really surprised me was the Glaceon peacefully sleeping on the foot of my bed. My other Poké balls were also on the top of the drawer beside my bed.
“How…….. What…… Why……” I said, looking from Lace to him.
“Long story short. You went rabid and insane and went after Aqlastic, we came after you, you tried to kill the baroness, then I injected tranquilizer to calm you down. Red left you in Blue’s arms, and went after the baroness himself. I followed after him, he found the key. He got all of our Pokémon back but when he was going to get his own he sent me away… So far he hasn’t come back yet.” Gold said and sighed. “Come here.”
I nodded and sat on the edge of his bed.
“Do you remember that he watched you when you were trying to kill the baroness?”
I nodded again.
“Well you see, after he gave me the last of the Poké balls, he was sending me away but I stopped him with a question. Actually I had about ten questions or even more, but there wasn’t enough time so I decided to get straight to the point. I asked why he was doing this even when we were taking such a huge risk, and he said….” Gold looked at me sadly.
“Look, I’m doing this for Skylar, alright? I don’t want her to get hurt just because of getting her Pokémon back. I know she doesn’t care if she gets hurt as long as she gets her Pokémon, but I do. The raging anger that I saw flaring in her eyes just a while ago, I don’t want to see her angry. She could have killed herself. Now go, and take their Pokémon back. Just go.”
“He really….. said that…” I said, unable to believe it. Why would he do something like that?
“That’s what he said, Skylar, that’s exactly what he told me. And you know what? He wants you to be happy, just like Silver and I want you to. But it looks like he was the most determined to make you happy. There, we all got our Pokémon back. But now he’s gone.”
“Fine, so you’re saying it’s my fault then?” I asked him. I knew it, I was just causing too much trouble for everyone.
“I’m not saying that, I’m saying that I’m jealous!” he said.
I blinked. I didn’t know what to say, I was stunned. Sure, Gold’s my closest friend, but……
“He’s always the one, he’s always the best. And now he’s the one who sacrificed himself so that you and the rest of us could have our Pokémon back. He did it for us, especially for you! It’s always him, Skylar.”
Oh, that kind of jealousy. The one in terms of fame and friendship. But I can sense that there’s more. From that distressed look on his face, I can tell that it’s not just about his friendship with Red. The situation could just get worse if I confronted him about it. “I’m really sorry Gold…. It’s my fault. If it wasn’t for me you wouldn’t have to lose your best friend.”
“Hey no apologies, I’m not angry at you. We’re both reckless, and reckless people have a tendency to do unintentional things from time for time.”
