Isabelle was a small town's pride and joy, living a life sheltered by popularity. She never knew what it was like to face the wrath that came with small town rumours. That was until someone walked into her life and turned it upside down.
School had been bearable recently, I had become sort of invisible. It seemed like the rumours, curtesy of James, had died down, and with that so had the amount of people harassing me. Turned out that James had dumped Amber a week after she had spread his rumours around, or so Tyler had said. It was the day before my Birthday, normally there would be a buzz in the air of everyone discussing my party, but not this year. I spent the day alone with not one mention of my day, except from Tyler of course. I decided to spend some time with Tyler after school seeing as I wouldn't be able to see him tomorrow with going to the airport. Tyler had given me a hoodie like his for my Birthday, obviously as a hint to stop stealing his, but I loved it. Oh, and he made my favourite pancakes.
I arrived home just before dinner time, quickly running upstairs. I changed in the hope of Mum and Will not noticing that I had only just got in. A slight knock on my door startled me as I was just chucking a hoodie on over the top of my T-shirt.
"Hey princess, dinner is ready." Pulling my hood off my head I replied "Okay, give me two minutes." Turning around to move my bag and clothes from earlier I had assumed James had left till he spoke up, "Princess are we still on for tomorrow?" Walking towards James I looked into his eyes so he knew that I wasn't lying, "James I'm not planning on bailing on you so stop worrying, okay?"
"James! Isabelle! Food is getting cold." Mum shouted out.
"Come on let's go." Without thinking I pulled his hand so that he would move away from the door frame. Once I realised my mistake I went to drop his hand, but he interlaced our fingers giving them a slight squeeze. "Thank you Princess."
Dinner was slightly awkward, and I wasn't too sure why. Will asked about school and Mum kept reminding me that I could have a party tomorrow for my Birthday, and how she could organise it in one night. James faced dropped slightly, he looked at me as if expecting me to change my mind. "Thanks Mum, well I'm planning on visiting somewhere with James. Maybe next year?"
She looked relieved when I said that, "Well if you're spending the day with James do you mind if me and Will go to the Hospital? It's just that they called and asked for a favour? Obviously, it's your Birthday so I hadn't agreed to it yet." There it is, the real reason for Mum's shifty behaviour. I should have said I was surprised, but I really wasn't.
"Sure, Mum don't worry about it." She jumped up and gave me a hug whilst turning to Will saying, "See I told you she'd understand." Grabbing my hand, she spoke happily "Why don't we give you your presents now, so me and Will can leave tonight." She pulled me downstairs towards the garage where a brand new black Range Rover was in front of me with a pink bow. Mum handed the keys saying, "Happy Birthday sweetheart". I hugged Mum and Will saying, 'thank you' probably a million times. Opening the car with my new keys I was stunned by the interior, and the leather seats were to die for. Seeing James glare at the car I shouted "James, come on, jump in!" He turned and walked away, up the stairs without giving me a glance.
After Mum and Will left, probably only an hour after giving me my brand-new car I went upstairs to confront James. "James? What did I do?" Being too scared to face his wrath I talked to him through the door. The door quickly swung open, causing me to automatically step back. "Nothing princess, you did nothing. Just go back downstairs with your parents." Taken aback by his harsh tone I replied softly, "My Mum has already gone with Will. What made you so angry? If it's the car I'm sorry, it's just you seemed to like it so I thought you'd want to have a look. I honestly didn't mean to upset you."
"So, you think I'm jealous of your car?" James looked even more annoyed at me now. Taking a step forward I blurted out, "No! I didn't mean that!"
"Look princess I'm tired I'll see you in the morning. Leave at eight, okay?" Before I even had the chance to reply the door was shut in front of my face.
