I tried to shuffle away from him, only for him to sling his arm around my waist so that I was pressed tight against him with my head against his chest.
"You're not going anywhere Princess" he whispered into my ear.
After a while I gave up struggling, realising I wasn't strong enough to prise his arm off me. It was only half way through the film that I had noticed my one hand was lying on top of his chest, and that his arm was no longer holding me in a tight vice grip, but was lying gently on my stomach.
I glanced up to see if James was still awake, or if he had passed out only twenty minutes into the film like Alec had. To my surprise James was already looking down at me. I gave a slight awkward smile before placing my head back on his chest.
An awkward silence filled the air, I could only hear James' heartbeat and the film murmuring in the background whilst feeling the slight rise and fall of his chest. I couldn't prevent the redness that spread across my cheeks as I felt his hand make its way up to my hair. A sigh escaped my lips as I closed my eyes. I felt James chuckle as I snuggled further into his chest, giving him better access to my hair. Sue me, it's my weakness.
I could gradually hear Mum and James' quiet murmurs as I realised that I must have fallen asleep and missed the end of the film.
"You can wake her up you know" I heard Mum whisper.
"Are you joking?" James laughed. "I'd rather not be the one to wake her; I'd probably end up breathing my last breath."
Mum laughed at James, "Okay, if she doesn't wake her up soon then just take her to bed. Save you both having bad backs tomorrow. Night James."
"Night." James replied.
I could hear Mum's footsteps slowly disappear, before the door was gently closed.
James' hand returned to my hair, touching it so gently that I wasn't even sure if it was happening. I felt his hand move, lifting me up so that he was carrying me. His hand stumbled on the door, causing him to lose his grip on my waist. I heard his quiet curse before he tightened his grip, pushing the door open with his foot. After slowly making his way up the stairs and into what I am guessing was my room, he gently placed me on my bed and pulled up the covers so that I was cocooned in my duvet.
I felt his hand lightly caress my cheek as his lips pressed against my forehead.
He whispered, "Goodnight Princess."
"Night James." I murmured.
"Ah, so you were awake. I didn't think you'd make me carry you if you weren't sleeping, guess I was wrong."
I lightly chucked, rubbing my eyes as I released a yawn. "Sorry." I muttered.
James gave me a slight smile, "I guess I can forgive you."
Pulling the duvet closer to my face I asked, "Are we okay James?"
Understanding that the conversation was taking a serious turn, James perched himself next to me on the side of my bed.
"What do you mean?" His eyebrows pulled together as if he was attempting to solve a puzzle that couldn't be solved.
"I mean are we just going to ignore each other tomorrow, with you acting like you always do James? I never know where I stand, whether you'll bite my head off for breathing the same air as you or for sitting too far away."
James took my hand that was holding the duvet, giving it a slight squeeze before saying with a slight smile, "We're fine. For the record, I can't ignore you when you didn't even leave your room."
Attempting to suppress a yawn, I replied, "You know what I mean."
He chuckled, "I know."
He stood up, refusing to let go of our entwined hands. He lent down, placing a gentle kiss on my forehead after releasing our hands. "You need to sleep, I'll see you in the morning Princess."
