The drive was awkward to say the least, James hadn't even wished me happy birthday. He got into my new car, shoved his headphones in and fell asleep. I was slightly gutted, I was driving James to the airport that was at least three hours away and he didn't utter a word to me. Luckily Mum had put Taylor Swift's album in my car, so I wasn't completely bored. After over three hours, my bum was completely numb and I desperately needed to pee. After pulling into the carpark I woke James up before running to the nearest toilet. James was stood outside waiting after I had done my business, holding a small carrier bag."I guess I'll go wait in the car." I was about to walk away before James spoke "You may as well come in with me." His voice was slightly hoarse from just waking up. He began to walk through the airport, with me following behind him. We sat at underneath the sign like his parents had said and waited. We were half an hour early so I decided to rest my eyes, bringing my knees up to my chest and resting my feet on the edge of the chair. I slowly felt myself dozing off before resting my head upon my knees. I was woken up by shouting, very loud shouting. Looking at my clock I noticed that I had been asleep for three hours. That's when I noticed that James was the one shouting, "I've been waiting for bloody three hours, THREE HOURS. You didn't even think to let me know? I haven't seen you both for over a year now. You've not rung me once! Have fun on your travels, let me know when you want your son back!" With that he threw his phone against the wall, smashing it to pieces.
Hesitantly, I walked up to James and whispered, "Hey let's get out of here, you're making a scene." With that he flipped, "Scene?! I'll give you a scene princess!" He spat aggressively at me. "You think you're all high and mighty, you're no better than me. Your own parents didn't even want to be with you on your birthday. Correction, parent. The other one could give a toss about you, could he?" He sarcastically laughed before continuing "Your friends don't even care about you, they decided to listen to a rumour spread by Amber than their golden girl. Amber of all people. I guess no one really cares about you, do they? It was all too easy. The fact is princess, you're worthless, easily forgotten and easily replaceable."
Tears freely streamed down my face as he spoke to me as if I was a spec of dirt that he could flick off his shoe. Looking up into his eyes as quiet sobs left my mouth. I tried covering them with my hand but it was no use. James pushed past me, shoving into my shoulder and grabbing the bag from the chair. Leaving me in the airport with a bunch of spectators. I slumped down on the floor next to the chair, hiding my face in my knees.
God knows how long I stayed there for till a security guard came up and spoke to me. "Excuse me Miss, but if you are not attending a flight I'm going to have to ask you to leave."
Slowly getting up off the floor I made my way outside, looking around for my car. I couldn't seem to find it. I always remembered where I parked, I blamed it on the rain that was tipping down. Reaching into my bags trying to find my keys I came up empty. The realisation hit me that James had locked the car when I went to the toilet, and that the keys where in his bag. James had left without me. I sat on the side of the pavement drenched to the bone knowing that I was alone, completely alone.
It could have been hours for all I knew till familiar headlights drove towards me, I was shivering from the cold, not a single part of me was dry. I stayed seated on the curb until the car stopped. Standing up I grabbed my drenched bag from off the floor before James could get around the front of the car. I was opening the back door as James spoke, "Isabelle."
Before any more words could come out of his mouth I glared at him "Happy Birthday, right?" With that I slammed open the door getting into the car and led across the back seat. All I can remember is shivering on the back seats of my car, before submitting to slumber.
