James POVI messed up, and bad. As soon as I saw the tears streaming down her face I had to leave. I couldn't stop the words leaving my mouth, I knew I was taking out the anger I felt towards my parents on her, but I couldn't stop. So, I left her. I left her in the airport alone. I had driven about three miles before pulling into a service station when I decided to ring Alec.
"Hey man, how did it go?" he sounded so hopeful.
"They didn't show up." All emotion had left my voice.
"What?! I can't believe it! I'm seriously glad Isabelle came with you now. How could they do this?" Alec was the one to offer me a place to stay after my parents decided to travel, he never understood how they could leave me. Then again, neither could I.
"I've messed up man." My voice slightly broke as I muttered those words.
"What did you do?" Alec was awfully quiet.
"It's Isabelle, I seriously messed up. She came up to me after I was on the phone. I was so mad god damn it, I said some things Alec. You should have seen her face, out of all the things I've done to her I don't think she will ever forgive me for this. I left her, I took her new car and left her at the airport..."
Alec cut me off before I could even continue, "You what? How could you do this to her? After she drove you up there on her Birthday, went out of her way for you to hopefully see your parents, and you've abandoned her as if she is worthless."
'Worthless' I felt my throat close up, making it impossible to swallow. All I could picture is her hurt eyes glaring into mine as I said that word, daring me to carrying on hurting her like I always did. She stood there taking every single horrible thing I said.
By now the rain had heavily picked up. It realised it had been nearly two hours since I left Isabelle. Quickly hanging up I turned the car around and made my way back to the airport.
As I drove towards the entrance I could see a petite girl curled up with her knees up to her chest with her head resting on top. Her hood fell down revealing the familiar blonde hair. Isabelle. She looked broken, drenched to the bone with tear marks staining her cheeks.
She looked up, recognising the car she picked up her bag. I jumped out the car calling her name, hoping to apologise. She was having none of it, "Happy Birthday, right?" she spat at me, slamming the back-seat door behind her. I stood outside gazing at the spot she had sat in for god-knows how long, regretting every single thing I had said.
She was shivering in her sleep, I could hear her teeth clattering all the way from the front. I had the heater on full blast but it wasn't doing anything. I pulled over into the side lane. Pulling my hoodie off, I jumped out of the car and opened the back seat. Opening her door, I lifted Isabelle up slightly in my arms, she woke up instantly.
"What the hell are you doing?" she stuttered as she tried to stop her teeth clattering from the cold. "You're going to get ill, I'm just taking your jacket off so you can get warm." She reluctantly let me lift her jacket off, probably because she was far too cold to argue. Feeling her arms, I realised just how cold she was. I placed my hoodie on her, drowning her petite frame. I heard her slight sigh from the new heat she received. Shutting the door behind me I jumped in the back seat. "W-what are you doing?" Picking her up from her seat I placed her on my lap wrapping my arms around her, pushing her into my chest. "You're too cold, I'm just warming you up princess." With that she placed her ice-cold hands on my arms, making me flinch.
I felt her relax into my arms after a while, as her breathing slowed. I was sure she was asleep until she whispered, "How could you leave me?" as her eyes fluttered closed.
