The disrupting sound of something she couldn't make out woke her up almost immediately. With the heavy rain, and the mist she couldn't see much of her surroundings. Not to mention she was lying down in the opposite direction of the noise, her back facing the road.
Too tired to move she just stayed there, hoping they would pass by.
As the noise got louder she started to feel more anxious and nervous but continued to push the thought that they weren't here for her and would go right by. Fat chance.
The noise quickly grew louder to a point it sounded like it was right next to her and soon after the sound of footsteps followed. A hand quickly grabbed her shoulder before she flinched away keeping her eyes shut in hopes they would think she was asleep or dead.
Just one problem beside the fact that she flinched away: her heart was pounding too loud for her or the person to ever believe that.
"Max!!!!" The sound of a worried voice hit her ears before she fully registered who it was.
"Jason," turning around and sitting up slowly she quickly made eye contact with his piercing grey eyes. "Wait what... what are you doing here?" Barely uttering the sentence his hand came to her forehead, checking her temperature.
"Snap, Max! ARE YOU OKAY!? How long have you been in this weather like this," he asked her sitting down next to her before his eyes finally took in the blood all over her. Mortified he looked up at her with more concern she has ever seen someone muster up, "Max..."
"Jason I'm fine. I am, it's a long story and I would have kept walking but I was just so tired..."
"Walking, wait what!? Why would you walk? Where? Why didn't you ask me? What happened? Max..." his voice trailed off through gritted teeth as he closed his eyes and took a deep breath before opening them again.
"Just please tell me you are okay," he finally said slowly and in almost a pleading voice. Letting out a sneeze and a small shiver she hoped Jason didn't notice, she just smiled and nodded her head.
"I'm fine really I am," before she could even register what was going on his jacket was thrown at her, her hands clutching the soft warm jacket on the inside. "Jason I can't..."
"Don't even try it, you need it way more than I do, specially with that fever you have. So from beginning. Why did you leave?" He asked but she stubbornly took his jacket and threw it gently to him. "I'm fine I've been in this weather for a while I've adapted to it sort of say. You probably..."
"Don't even say I need it more because from where I'm standing I don't. Besides weather like this doesn't bother me..." he said wrapping it around her shoulders this time and unable to deny the cold she took it less begrudgingly. "Thank you."
He sighed frustratedly and was about to say something when she sneezed again he couldn't help but feel guilty. "Nevermind... man I'm a idiot. Come on we need to get out of this weather."
"It's okay, really," she smiled reassuringly but he just shook his head. "Why did you leave? You could have told me," his voice seeming far away then his eyes not connecting with hers. "I just had family matters to deal with," she finally admit knowing she would regret it later. She could see that he wanted to ask her about it but he kept his mouth shut, his eyes drifting to her cut.
"We need to get that checked, I don't know why it hasn't healed yet but we can ask the Doc. when we get there," he said and again taking her by surprise he tore at the end of his shirt, took the piece he cut, and wrapped it around her shoulder.
"That won't last for long but it should give sometime, but we need to go now," moving to help her up, she quickly shook her head and didn't move a muscle.
