Two weeks have passed and everything was slowly going back to normal. Max's bruises and scratches were all healed, except for one long scratch across her palm. She kept it hidden as much as possible.
She walked around trying to find her rhythm again but everything felt different.
Imperfects were the only ones at school now since the perfects left shortly after she disappeared from this place. Even some of the teachers left, including her teacher, Ms. Fighter.
Max no longer practiced with Jason but he was practically with her all the time. His presence was enough to calm her frustration, and made her feel... loved.
Walking toward the Cafe. she grabbed her lunch and walked toward her usual table. She looked over at the other imperfects and wished more than anything she had someone to talk to.
Instead her mind reeled toward the formation that would need to take place, especially with the battle that's coming forth. She knew deep down no one was safe. And that worried her more than anything.
"Still thinking I see."
She turned and smiled as Jason sat across from her with his own lunch. He put his hand in hers and smiled as her cheeks went deep red. He flipped her hand over and looked at the scar before turning it back around, running circles around it.
"What's wrong?"
Max looked up at him with a sigh and took her fork, starting to play with her food. She didn't want to admit it but she liked the feel of his hand in hers.
"Nothing. Why you ask?" She continued playing with her food and didn't dare look up. She could feel the tension starting to build and she was building it.
"You seem...tense?" Jason said it in a light tone but the concern never left his eyes.
"What are we going to do Jas? The kids are leaving and it's no better out there then it is here and I..."
"Sorry I'm not paying attention, did you call me Jas?" This time Jason's smile matched his eyes and light tone. Max blushed slightly but rolled her eyes and shook her head.
"Are you even listening to me?"
"Sure I am, you called me Jas. Though I prefer the name Jax..."
"What?" She gave him a weird look and he just shrugged with a smile.
"Just a suggestion."
Max knew there was no stopping her blush so she continued her earlier conversation. "What's going to happen to the kids? Do we have a plan?"
This time Jason sighed and brought a hand to the back of his neck. "The choice is being decided through the council at my meeting later on today. I don't know what they will choose but I don't think it's smart to send them out just yet. Especially with everything that's been happening..."
"What? What's been happening?"
"Besides what's already happened?" He raised a brow and she rolled her eyes.
"Obviously besides that."
He looked around before turning to her with a serious look and a sharp glaze. "Fine, but no one can know."
Max smiled at that and held her hand up to which he looked at it questionably.
"So let's not tell anyone."
His smirk reached his eyes and he sighed in relief. "This is why you are here. Okay I don't know how, though I have a good idea who, but people are disappearing."
