"Max!!!!" Her step dad called from downstairs, loud and clear as he always does.
Waking up slowly she sat up and ignored the fact her dad knew she was home when she wasn't supposed to be and hobbled down the stairs.
She came face to face with her dad as her hair at the moment probably looked like a rat's nest, and her eyes most likely red and puffy. "Yes?"
"Umm can you tell me why you have a visitor?" He asked from the kitchen, his arms folded staring her down with cold, dead eyes. Immediately awake she replayed his words over and over remembering what Jason said, "Well just be prepared for whoever comes to collect you."
"Visitors you say?" She replied with a nervous smile looking around for something. "Yes, outside," the dad answered back hesitantly not moving from the kitchen.
"Hey when did you get a tattoo?" Her dad asked surprisingly, looking down at her wrist. "Oh not too long ago I guess," she shrug moving it more out of his view. "Whatever."
Great my dad noticed, I mean I guess I kind of forgot about it but still... And now I have to worry about who's at the door. What if it's the imperfect people from earlier? There going to kill me!!! Okay okay, they have daggers, I can't exactly grab a knife what's the next best thing. Think think.
Her eyes trailed to the kitchen table to the pen that was left there from the other night. Quickly grabbing it she removed the cap and pretended to be writing something on her hand when her dad gave her weird looks.
Opening the door, with her pen toward the person outside as she tried to look as intimidating as possible.
Opening the rest of the door quickly she saw who it was and couldn't help but shrink back and bring down her pen. Wow I take back what I said, give me anyone else but this person.
Jason stood at the doorway impatiently noticing the pen and cracked a smile. "Look I don't want to..." she immediately slammed the door and walked back inside.
"Maxine!" Her dad scolded her opening the door to an amused Jason. He gave her a look and raised his brow, mouthing the word 'Maxine.' Shrugging she folded her arms over her chest leaning against the door.
Turning toward her dad he outstretched his hand towards him and to her astonishment he actually took it. Jason pulled his hand away and gave a quick glance towards Max before looking back at her father. "Hi, I am a student at the Academy, a place where very talented and smart kids go to. I'm here to tell you, your daughter has been accepted to attend the academy with the rest of our students," he explained his smile seemed almost blinding.
"Yes," her dad weighed the option his expression unreadable. "How old are you exactly?" He questioned even though it seemed weird to ask Jason smiled and answered anyway, "I'm 19 years old."
Not trying to look surprise she just stood there unmoving from her position. I could have sworn he was older. As if he heard her, he turned to her then with a smile, sending a wink before he turned forward as she quickly looked away with a roll of her eyes.
Taking that in her dad continued, "You say she was accepted into this school? Why? She has no special gifts or talents and her grades were always average or below standards," Max wincing at what her dad was saying she noticed Jason's smile slowly seeming to evaporate but he responded strongly, "I assure you she is quite talented and gifted."
Breaking the tension that was brought forward Max spoke quickly not looking at anyone in particular. "So as great as your visit was, you already know I turned down your recommendation," she told him smiling sweetly. Moving his glaze from her dad he smiled back, "Oh really we didn't receive any email or message saying you denied, you knew about this visit for a while. We did tell you."
