David’s POV
“God, I want to be there so bad!” Josh said through facetime as I buttoned up my silver vest.
“Yeah, you could help me tie this damn tie,” I said while struggling.
“You should really learn how to do that,” Melinda commented as she lazily played with the hem of her dress on my bed.
“Or you could help me,” I replied as I threw the tie at her.
“Alright, alright.” She finally got up and helped me while I tried combing my now short hair. I had gotten it cut because everyone was giving me crap about it. I just wondered if Giovanna would like it.
“Done. Now for the finishing item.” She tossed me the darker silver blazer and returned to her seat on my bed. I looked myself in the mirror. Piercing out, check. Hair neat, check. Breath fresh, check. I wore a subtle silver suit on with bits of grey here and there with Giovanna’s favorite rose in the breast pocket.
“Let me see the finishing look!” Josh said.
Melinda got up and moved the camera so that Josh could get a good view of me.
“You finally cut your hair! Thank God!” he exclaimed. Melinda chuckled while I gave an unamused look into the camera.
“Yeah, I finally did the deed. But if Giovanna doesn’t like it, I’m blaming you for pressuring me.”
“Damn,” Melinda said while shaking her head. She was smiling, but something about it didn’t reach her eyes.
“What?”
“You’re growing up,” she said.
“Well don’t go teary eyed on me, c’mon. This is supposed to be a good night!”
“Alright, alright. I’m not that emotional. I’m just... proud,” she said with a slanted smile.
“Screw that! I’m dying over here! Jesus, David you look so grown up. God, I need some tissues.” Josh left the screen for a few moments to return with a whole box of tissues.
“What?! Nick! No- Nick I did not forget! I’m in the middle- Jesus, Nick! I swear,” he mumbled. He gave us an apologetic look through the camera. “I’ve got to go. I actually did forget that we’re supposed to meet some of Nick’s friends somewhere. But please take pictures!” He turned his head and screamed, “I’m coming dammit! Bye guys! Good luck!”
With that, the call ended. I looked up at Melinda to tell her she should go get Giovanna ready, but she was already getting up.
“I know I have to go help with her dress, I just wish you chose an easier color. What color do you like her in?”
“I don’t know. That’s why I asked you and Linda to help her with it.”
She rolled her eyes and said, “C’mon you must have some kind of idea at what kind of dress you want her in.”
I shrugged, “I think she looks beautiful in anything. It’s whatever dress makes her happiest.”
“Mushier and mushier by the second,” she teased.
“Yeah, yeah. Now go help her. We don’t have unlimited time.”
“Don’t worry about it.”
She disappeared as soon as the words left her mouth.
I was serious when I said I wanted to give Giovanna a fairytale night. Fairy god mother included.
I checked my appearance in the mirror one more time and took a deep breath. I then walked out into the hall and headed for the ballroom.
