Chapter Sixteen

Just as Georgia finishes off her granola bar and apple juice as breakfast, a thought hits her. She scrambles to the key rack, looking for her familiar black and purple All Time Low landyard she bought at their concert a few months prior. When she sees them hanging there, she’s utterly perplexed, “How…”

Without further distraction, Georgia takes the keys and goes out to her car, climbing in. The wind comes in before she can shut the door, a note that was on the dash flutters onto the driver’s seat, directly in her lap.

Hey, so I now know not to take you out after dark unless I’m driving. I hope you slept all right, and I’ll see you soon.

-Luke xx

Georgia smiles at his scrawled handwriting, folding the note up and placing it in her backpack. She starts up the car and heads to school, wondering just how Luke got her car back to her driveway in the middle of the night.

When Georgia steps close enough to her locker, she sees the familiar gang standing around. Smiling, she bites her lip and feels butterflies in her stomach when her eyes meet the back of Luke’s head where an unfamiliar beanie is placed. Without a second thought, Georgia walks behind him and leans up, pressing her lips to his cheek near his ear.

“Ooh,” Calum and Ashton say in sync, leaning into one another for some sort of dramatic effect. Aliza smacks Ashton’s arm and he giggles before wrapping her up in him. Luke merely rolls his eyes and turns around to face Georgia. He’s smiling, but she can tell that something’s out of place.

“What was that for?” he asks, running his fingers along her arms, sending goosebumps wherever he touches. Georgia grins, repeating the same innocent kiss on his other cheek. Just as she does so, from behind her she hears whispers, “I can’t believe he’s even seeing that slut, he could do so much better.” “I know. I bet they’re only together because she gives him what he wants.” Based off of Luke’s non-changing facial expression, he didn’t hear the girls, and Georgia doesn’t want to ruin the moment, so she stays quiet.

As she opens her locker, she answers, “You brought my car back.” Luke nods, “Well I couldn’t pick you up this morning, so I knew you would need it.”

Georgia nods, turning to face him. “How’d you do it, though?” Her head cocks to the side slightly as she raises her eyebrows. He shrugs, “I just…brought it?” She shakes her head and narrows her eyes to almost-slits. “How’d you get home?” Luke locks his fingers around hers tightly and rubs his thumb over the back of her palm, “I jogged.” Georgia gapes up at him, “You what?!” He nods and smiles, chuckling to himself. “I drove home, parked my car, jogged to the cemetery, drove your car to your house, and jogged home.” Georgia’s jaw falls slack as her eyes widen further. “B-But my house is like…miles away from yours!”

“So?” he asks, glancing down at her with an amused expression as her mouth opens and shuts as if she’s a fish trying to gulp in too much water.

Rolling her eyes, Georgia composes herself, “That’s a long way to run.” Luke nods, “Yeah, it was.” She huffs out like a child and stomps her foot. “You shouldn’t have,” she tells him in a slightly whiney voice. “You should’ve just woken me up and made me drive myself home.”

Luke shrugs again and before they can get into a squabble about it, Calum speaks up. “So are you coming to our game this weekend, Geeps?” She nods, “I’m working but I can leave straight from there and make it on time.” She’s not sure why, but Michael’s expression turns sour as he walks into class and takes his familiar seat at the back. Calum nods to the others and keeps walking, chucking up a deuce before walking into another room down the hall.
