The lights from the city lit up the night. Not as much as what she was used to in New York, but still impressively bright. The lights in Paris, France were romantic and vibrant, yet subtle. Unlike the overly dramatic lights Marilyn was used to in New York City. From where she stood, 984 feet above ground, she made herself believe that she was looking down on all of Paris, even all of France.
She couldn't hear the rustle and bustle of people and cars passing through the city but instead the whistle of the wind blowing all around her. Though the city below was bright and beautiful she knew the magnificent edifice she was standing on was equally as bright. The Eiffel Tower was always lit at night and was truly a sight to behold.
It took Lucas a lot of convincing to get her to come up here but she was glad she did. He rented the entire tower for the night. And after a romantic dinner, which he prepared himself, he took her on her own personal tour of the beautiful tower. It was just them two, along with Lucas' security guards, roaming the Eiffel Tower.
He made sure to show her every inch of the tower. Every "ok" view and every magnificent view. Which is why they ended their tour here on the top floor of the Eiffel Tower. They just stood by the banister looking out on the beauty that is Paris, France. Everything about tonight was perfect. Everything about where she was and who she was here with was perfect.
She hadn't been to the Eiffel Tower in years. She promised herself that the next time she journeyed up here it would be with someone she loved. The last time she came here it was with her college sweetheart. A man who she had known her entire life and was best friends with before they were anything else. They dated seriously for almost three years. She was under the impression he was the one, until the relationship harshly ended.
Every time she came to Paris she would bypass the Eiffel Tower and the hurtful memories that accompanied it. Every time she came to Paris--regardless of whether she was having a good time--if she saw the tower, she would immediately think of "him". The pain he caused her and the hurt she felt when he told her he was leaving for good.
If she were to ever journey up the Iron Lady again it would be with someone who could possibly make the historic mark memorable again, in a good way. As she stood against Lucas' chest looking out on the city she noticed that she felt at ease. She wasn't thinking about the past or the man who left her. She could only think of the future with the man whose embrace she was currently in. The word future alongside the name Lucas made her feel a way she hadn't in a very long time, hopeful. She was passed just content, passed just excited . . .she was in love. She was in love again and it felt so good!
It felt like the years of hurt and disappointment were gone and she could finally live life to the fullest. She didn't think in a million years she would be here at the Eiffel Tower with Lucas. She held on to his hands that were tightly wrapped around her waist. It was funny how she was never looking for love but it ended up finding her.
When she met Lucas for the first time she hadn't realized how broken he really was. When he stood in her doorway, that fateful day, he looked confident even in his befuddlement. He gave off a strong and confident demeanor. But now after spending close to 7 months with him she realized that he was just a big fragile vase resting on a shaky pedestal encased in a stone wall.
Even though he probably wouldn't admit it now, when they first started to become serious he would NOT touch her! No kisses, no handholding, no hugs, no nothing. It was almost as if the act itself would destroy him for good. Even though he kept her at a physical distance he yearned for her and always wanted- no, needed her around. His words and actions told her he needed her. He would call her every day, take her out for breakfast, lunch and dinner. While his sexual detachment said the opposite she knew she just had to be patient and wait. She was glad she did because this was worth it. The way she feels now was definitely worth it.
