A couple hours after leaving the hospital...
Lucas stepped out of the hot shower and unto the rug on the bathroom floor. He personally hated stepping on rugs when he came out of the shower but Marilyn hated stepping on his tile floor when she stayed at his house and well, she won that argument. As soon as he was out of the pressure of the hot water he felt his shoulder and leg ache with pain. The doctor advised him to stay on bed rest and off his leg for a week but that was just not acceptable for the busy billionaire.
He wrapped a towel around his waist and put one through his wet hair. He let the towel hang around his neck when he went to wipe the perspiration from the mirror over his sink. When the moisture was gone he could see his tattered and bruised reflection. He had a stitch across his forehead an inch long. Tiny cuts from the glass was all over his body and face marring his once clear and blemish-free skin. Bags were heavy under his eyes from lack of rest and from worrying so much about Marilyn. Heavy stubble was starting to form its way on his chin and cheeks. He had neglected his twice a week shaving rudiment and now it was starting to show. He had no doubt if he kept it up he would look like Luke in a matter of days.
He definitely did not like what was looking back at him, not because he looked a mess but because for the first time in his life he was weak and there wasn't much he could do to fix it. He now has something he's never had before, vulnerabilities. He wouldn't mind having one vulnerability for the rest of his life, after all he was human. He just didn't want to be vulnerable to someone who didn't love him back.
Ughhhhh!! Why was he was standing here questioning Marilyn's love for him? He never did so before. Before he wouldn't dare question Marilyn's love, it was useless. He was certain he loved her more than life. It pains him to admit it but he tested her love and trust ample times in Paris and she proved herself. He stood there glaring at himself and growing angry with every second that passed. He was breaking apart at the seams.
Ever since meeting Marilyn he was a completely different person. A person who could feel the joys of being in love, a person who could depend on someone else but worse of all a person who could be hurt. He had felt a pain so indescribable when he saw Marilyn's engagement ring in her purse he didn't know if he would ever recover.
Maybe he was overreacting. Maybe everyone in love occasionally felt this hurt, but because he never allowed himself that luxury he wasn't used to this kind of pain. It felt like someone was hammering away at his fragile heart every second of every day. Worst of all every time he looked up to tell whoever was doing the evil deed to stop he saw Marilyn holding the hammer and even though it hurt so much he couldn't stop her.
He had allowed Marilyn to have something he never dare give anyone else, his heart. He was wondering if the person he trusted with his heart loved him back enough to take care of it. She had said she was scared about telling his family about them getting married. He just thought she was nervous about what they would think he hadn't thought for a second it was because she didn't love him.
He hated his father but he understood why he taught him what he did. There was no way anyone could live life let alone efficiently run a multibillion dollar company feeling the way he felt right now. He drew his hand back from the sink and smashed it into the mirror, instantly shattering the glass. Not even wincing from the pain he felt as it shot up his hand to his shoulders, he dropped his head and tears fell. He opened his eyes not believing he was crying for the second time in two days. He let out a string of curses as he wiped the unwelcoming tears away. It was becoming very clear to him that he was losing his mind and sooner or later his family would pick up on it.
