New York City

I gripped on to nearby trees as I stumbled downhill, desperately trying to catch up with Jane.

“Jane! Slow down!” I called out into the vast woods.

“Come on Evelyn, use your speed!”

Jane sped up and leaped over a large frosted creek. The bitter winds lashed against my smooth skin harshly, I was unaffected. It feels amazing to be so strong; I snickered at the thought of not having this power when I was human… though sometimes I wish I could remember… I wish…

“Evelyn?”

I snapped my eyes up, looking for where Jane stood.

“Over here” She spoke emphatically.

She glided on top of a hulking tree branch above me, a smile beamed across her face.

“I believe we’re here” She motioned me to join her.

I dug my robust fingers into the tree, pulling myself up with little effort. I got on my feet and stared across the little bit of forest we had to overcome, and there laid a city a massive city; the tall buildings glistening silver as the setting sun cloaked them with the little light it had left. I let my hearing take over as I heard the cars and humans go on with their everyday lives, even in the freezing cold.

“New York? Why didn’t we just fly here?” I asked stunned.

“They would track us easier” she hurried forward, grasping on to a neighboring tree.

By they I know she means, Alec… and Felix… and any other guard who is able to take us down. I shivered at the thought. Aro has punished people with death for much milder things then this; what if Jane was right? What if they did find out and hunt us down? What would Alec say?...

“I have a question” I spoke softly.

“Yes?”

We both stopped right outside of the woods, we we’re finally here; well finally out of the forest at least. I shifted back and forth on the heels of my feet.

“Will-will Aro punish us?”

Jane stood silent for a moment. “I don’t want you to worry about that right now-”

“You just said they’ll track us easier!”

“I’ll stop talking about it if it bugs you that much!” she snapped back weaker then usual.  “Just, you- you haven’t been a part of the Volturi long enough to understand.”

I held my gaze for a few moments then draped my head down, I really shouldn’t worry right now, now we need to find Connor.

“Aro please!” I pleaded “Please they would only leave if it was important!”

“Alec, the decision has been made; do not deny my authority” Aro spoke forcefully.

I stood panicking in front of the three thrones, making a complete fool of myself; but I didn’t care. They don’t know why Jane and Evelyn are gone, they have come to the conclusion that they fled by choice, not by force.

“Alec you should go now…” Marcus hazily said.

“No! You’ll kill them! Kill them!”

Aro motioned Felix and Demetri forward, they grabbed me harshly but not hard enough to startle me. I thrashed in their hold wanting to cut off their senses; though I know if I do I’ll end up like Jane and Evelyn.

“We’re not going to kill her” Caius snapped.

“What?” I stopped thrashing and stared intensely at all three Masters “Which her?”

Aro placed his hands together and approached me at a safe distance;

“Jane has been a part of this coven for over 300 years; she is strong and powerful-”

“Evelyn… is not” Caius sneered.
