After the episode of my freakish nightmare, Dad and Frazier stuck around to help us pack. Dad wanted me to see someone along with everyone else to help deal with everything that happened this year. After many go around about it, I finally relented. I wanted to see Jordan, but he thought it was best if he referred me to someone that wasn't close to the situation. The therapy sessions would start once we settled back at home.
While we packed up, Dad and Frazier took care of the final arrangements on the rental house. I would miss the place. It had become home to me.
As I was packing up the remaining items that I had in my room, Scarlett came in and wrapped her arms around me from behind.
"Shouldn't you be packing?" I asked her.
"I already did. My stuff is all loaded up," Scarlett answered.
"Well, in that case, I know something you can do," I said with a look.
"And what might that be?" She asked with a purr to her voice.
"Help me finish packing," I said, handing her a box.
She took the box and gave me a look, "This is not what I had in mind, Matthew."
"I know, but I'm already behind because someone kept me up late last night," I winked at her.
"I didn't hear you were complaining one bit," she smirked.
"Well, who will turn down going head to head in Call Of Duty," I grinned.
"Well, I still think you cheated," Scarlett accused me.
"I won fair and square. We even have witnesses," I reminded her.
"Your family doesn't count," she said, sticking out her tongue at me.
"Oh, that's real mature," I replied, rolling my eyes.
"So, is this," she said, sticking her thumbs in her ears and wiggle her fingers.
"I'll give you mature," I said as I chased her out of my room and down the hall only to have Dad greet us.
"Are you done yet?" He asked, giving me a look.
"I was taking a break," I answered with a sheepish look.
"Take a break later. Your mom has already blown up my phone twenty times, wanting to know what's taking us so long," Dad told me.
"I blame Scarlett. She distracted me," I accused Scarlett.
"Aa, I did not! He's jealous because I already finished!" Scarlett exclaimed.
"I don't care what the reasoning is. Matthew finished packing. Scarlett, head downstairs," Dad ordered us as we both stuck our tongues out at each other and went in opposite directions.
Frazier came out of Junior's room, carrying a box. "I swear these kids aren't nineteen, they're five," Dad mentioned.
"Were we as bad as they are?" Frazier asked Dad.
"I think that's up for debate. Is that it?" Dad asked, pointing to the box.
"Yeah, the others are all packed up. We're waiting on Matthew with the last of his things. Did you complete things with the housing commission?" Frazier asked.
"Yeah, I think they will like the surprise I have in store for them next year," Dad said with a smirk. They headed downstairs as I finished up the last box.
I walked out of the bedroom and down the stairs, locking the front door and closing it. I took the box and loaded it, then walked over to the others.
"I will sure miss this place," Junior said.
"You mean the craziness and dead body swinging at our front door? Yeah, sure," Drew said with a look.
"No, not that, but the good times we had here," Junior mentioned.
"You mean like the time Scarlett caught a glimpse Junior's junior when you were in the shower?" Elijah asked.
"No, not that! The other times," Junior said, getting annoyed.
"Oh, you mean when you got pranked by Elijah and Drew?" Liz asked.
"Or the time you got your ass kicked playing cards?" I added.
"You know what? Forget it. I will not miss this place," Junior got into the car, grumbling, as the rest of us laughed.
Everyone got in, and I looked at Dad. "Are you sure Mom's okay with this?"
"For the hundredth time, yes. I mean, we already got used to Drew, and Scarlett will be a nice welcome. What's one more to add to the mix?" Dad asked me.
We pulled up to the brother's house, and the five of them walked out. The only one that had bags was Leo. The other four stayed to take some summer courses. Scarlett asked if Leo could come back to help him get over his breakup with Kyle. Leo assured her that he was okay with staying, but she insisted. So, I asked Dad, and he called Mom, and here we are.
He walked over to the car and got in the back seat.
"Thank you again, Mr. Jones. You didn't have to do this," Leo said to Dad.
Dad turned and looked at Leo. "It's what families do for each other. Scarlett is our family, which makes you our family. Got it?"
Leo nodded.
"Oh, and call me, Ryan. Mr. Jones is my father's name," Dad said.
"Okay, Ryan," Leo smiled.
Dad chuckled as he looked at me. "This will be an interesting summer."
I laughed.
Then his phone went off, and he answered it, "Yes, baby. We are leaving now. We just hit the expressway. No, I'm not lying. Don't you believe me? I swear. Okay, I love you too."
He ended the call and stuck his head out the window, yelling to Frazier, "We better break the speed barrier. It pisses Alex!"
Frazier chuckled as we all pulled out, heading home. Elijah stuck his head out the window and yelled, "The first year, down! Let's go home!"
I heard Drew yell, "Elijah, you, idiot! Get back in here before you cause an accident!"
I looked at Dad, "I've got idiots for friends."
"Yeah, but those idiots are family and trust me, they are the type you want on your side," Dad reasoned.
I turned and looked at Leo and Scarlett talking and laughing, then looked back at Dad, "Yeah, even if one of them tried to make out with me."
He glanced at the back, then to me, "Is there something you want to tell me?"
"I'll tell you later. It's a funny story," I mentioned.
"Tell me on the way home. We've got time," Dad smirked.
"Okay, so it all started with this crazy, annoying redhead...."
