After dinner, we all hung out and caught up with everything that had been happening. As we talked, there was a knock at the kitchen door, and Nik said, "I'll get it. It's probably Mike. He said he'd be stopping by after dinner."
We were laughing when Nik opened the door, and there wasn't anyone there. "That's odd."
We all stopped and looked at the door. Dad and the others came into the kitchen. As Nik was getting ready to close the door, something came crashing down and swung back and forth, causing the girls to scream and him to turn.
His eyes widened when he realized what it was. He shouted, "Oh, God! Dad!"
Nik grabbed the thing to realize it was not a thing but a person, and it turned out to be Micheal. He grabbed him, screaming as Dylan and Jordan ran to help him.
"Dad! Help him!" Nik yelled in a hysterical voice, as he tried to hold Mike.
"Jordan, grab him," Dylan shouted, and Jordan tried to hold him up.
"Ryan! Get something to cut him down," Dylan screamed.
Dad grabbed a butcher knife and quickly ran over, cutting the rope as the three of them caught him and laid him down. We walked over, and Nik pushed them away, tearing at the plastic, screaming, "No! No! No!" He opened it to find Micheal bloody and gutted.
He grabbed Mike and rocked him in his arms, "Oh God! No! Michael, wake up! Oh God," Nik screamed as he sobbed, holding him. Dylan dropped to his knees as Marissa held him.
Nik looked at Marissa. "Mom. Please make him wake up!"
She couldn't find the words as Austin walked over and knelt in front of him, "Nik."
"Austin?" Nik whispered, tears streaming down his cheeks.
"Nik, he's gone," Austin said to him.
"No. No, Mike can't be," Nik cried.
Mack knelt and put her hands on the side of Nik's face. "Nik, let him go."
"Mack, I can't," he sobbed. "I love him. Oh, God, I love him," he cried with his head on top of Michael's.
"I know, baby brother," Mack comforted.
Junior walked over and crouched. "Nik. Let him go. Please." He reached over and helped Nik release Mike from his grasp. "Come on," Junior said as he wrapped his arm around Nik, leading him inside the house.
Dad made a call as Jordan looked at Frazier. "Go take care of your boy. We got this." Frazier nodded and helped Marissa up as they went inside to take care of Nik.
We stood there in shock as Dad got off the phone. He looked at Jordan. "They'll be here in a few minutes. Can you call his parents?"
"Yeah, But I'll wait until they arrive," Jordan said somberly. Elena brought Dad a sheet, and he covered the body as they waited for the emergency crew to show up. Dean went with Jordan to tell his parents. The ME loaded the body into the ambulance and took it away.
I stood there with Junior, Elijah, and Drew as we watched them drive off.
"How's Nik?" Drew asked.
"Devastated. Who could do such a thing?" Junior asked.
Frazier came outside.
"How is Nik, Dad?" Junior asked Frazier.
"Hurting," Frazier mumbled.
Jordan and Dean returned a while later, and Dad asked, "How did it go?"
"We told them a drunk driver hit and killed Mike," Dean said. "They'll make it like it. If they knew the real reason, it would destroy them."
"Ryan, to see their faces when I had to tell them their son was dead. I never want to go through what they are going through. It was horrible to lie and tell them a drunk driver killed their sixteen-year-old son when we know the truth," Jordan said to him.
Dad stood there, and his body tense as he said, "If it's a fucking war they want, then that's what they'll get."
Dad looked at all of us. "They all go down. This situation ends now. I refuse to let them hurt any more of my family. Jordan and Dylan follow me. Dean calls the others, and boys get ready; things will get worse." He turned and walked into the house.
"Houston, we have a problem," Drew exhaled deeply. We all looked at him as he added, "Things won't get worse; they're about to get horrible."
"Yep," I said in agreement.
Today was the day of Michael's funeral. I went to Scarlett's room and took her hand as we headed out with the others to the cemetery. We all stood there as Nik looked lost. He walked over and picked up some dirt and sprinkled it on the casket.
Micheal's death and burying their child devastated his parents. We watched as they hugged Nik. They were so understanding about their relationship, which most parents have a hard time accepting when their child admits to being gay. I had a lot of respect for them.
After everyone left, Nik was sitting there by himself in front of the casket. I walked over and took a seat next to him. We said nothing until he asked, "Why? Why would they do this?" He looked at me. I looked at him as he continued, "He didn't deserve this."
"I know, Nik," I said, putting my arm around him, and he leaned his head into my chest and sobbed. I let him.
Frazier looked at Dad, "I'm glad Matthew is here. He and Nik have always been close."
"Yeah, I am, too," Dad agreed.
Austin walked over and sat on the other side of Nik as Mack sat behind him, then Junior until all the brothers, sisters, and cousins sat with them.
"What are they doing?" Jordan asked.
"What families do. Being there for the other person when they need someone," Mom said.
"We have some great kids," Elena said.
"No, we have amazing kids," Dad corrected her.
They watched as the others joined around Nik and stayed with him.
"When do you want to take care of this?" Frazier asked Dad.
"First things first, take care of your son, then when the time is right, we take care of the rest," Dad said.
"You got that right," Cole said, walking up to them with his family along with Dean and his family.
"What are you doing here?" Dad asked.
"You didn't think you all were doing this alone, did you?" Cole asked. Dad gave him a look as Cole said, "Yeah, I didn't think so. As our motto says, family comes first. You hurt one; you hurt all."
"Damn straight," Jordan said.
I guess we were gearing up to end this once and for all, which was fine with me. The Frazier family was going down once and for all. In the immortal words of my dad: game on.
