"You!" a cry echoed through the gorge.
Ravenpaw choked on the water as he was pulled away from the forest by the current. Waves splashed, sending water up his nose and throat. Ravenpaw couldn't call for help, opening his mouth would send more water down.
"You are the raven's wing!" the cat cried. Suddenly, a glossy pelted white she-cat appeared in front of Ravenpaw. She lifted him up by the scruff and turned around. Ravenpaw was shocked to realize that they were no longer in the gorge, but in a sunny forest.
There were four other cats. Ravenpaw immediately recognized Frostpaw, who seemed perfectly comfortable in the shiny environment, and Lynxpaw, who was frozen and shaking. Next to them were two toms, one black with brown ears and the other white with tan, black, and brown spots. The spots looked like patches against his fur.
"Ravenpaw!" Lynxpaw meowed when she saw him. She looked like she wanted to say more, but was silenced by a glare from Frostpaw. Ravenpaw could tell that this was important and that they couldn't speak at the time, whatever it was.
Frostpaw had been looking around nervously, Ravenpaw noticed, as if something was wrong. She seemed anxious, and Ravenpaw knew that she was barely ever so nervous as she was at the time.
One of the toms, the black one, padded up to Lynxpaw. He licked her ear. As if by instinct, Lynxpaw licked his ear back. The tom then whispered something to Lynxpaw that Ravenpaw couldn't make out.
The cat did the same with Frostpaw. As he spoke to her, she nodded. They licked ears before the tom padded over to Ravenpaw.
The black tom looked at Ravenpaw as he came over. Ravenpaw felt the cat's eyes bore into his own as if the cat was looking for something. Then, the cat muttered something. "Telekinesis."
Ravenpaw cocked his head to one side. "What do you mean?" But before he could get an answer, the cat licked his ear. Ravenpaw knew he was supposed to lick back, and he did it reluctantly. Why did Lynxpaw and Frostpaw understand, but not him?
Frostpaw sat quietly doing nothing, Ravenpaw noticed. She was closing her eyes and concentrating on something, but he couldn't tell what.
"The three elements of the mind are now in your paws," the black tom meowed. "You must help the four cats, one of each Clan, to save the Clans from an old enemy."
He continued. "You already know one of these cats. Speak to Applepaw when you wake up; she will know what you need to know. And remember: as the four cats save the Clans from the shadowy claws of bone and dark, the frosty lynx protected by the raven's wing will rescue those in need of help and fight only when absolutely necessary."
Ravenpaw opened his eyes. He was back in his nest, curled up against Applepaw. He purred and took in her sweet scent, rubbing his nose against her reddish fur.
Then he remembered the strange cat from his dream. Ravenpaw prodded Applepaw with his paws until she muttered, "What? I was chasing a mouse through the forest and was about to catch it!"
Ravenpaw purred a bit at the thought of he and Applepaw doing that together. He shook his head and kept speaking. "Applepaw, you know about the prophecy."
Thesis got Applepaw up. "How do you know?" she whispered, careful to make sure no other cats heard.
"A cat in a dream told me. Lynxpaw and Frostpaw know, too. I didn't tell them. They were there," Ravenpaw explained. "But we're part of a prophecy too. A strange cat whispered something to each of us. To me, he said telekinesis. I don't know what he meant."
Applepaw seemed to understand more than he did. "It's a prophecy. You're telekinetic!" she meowed excitedly.
Ravenpaw flattened his ears. "What does that mean?" he asked sheepishly.
Applepaw purred, "You can lift things with your mind. Try lifting that rock!" She signaled at a rock with her tail.
Ravenpaw concentrated on the small rock, and whispered "up" in his head. Slowly, very slowly, the rock rose.
Applepaw and Ravenpaw looked bewildered at the discovery of Ravenpaw's hidden power. Mostly Ravenpaw, since he hadn't even known about the prophecy.
Purring, Applepaw rubbed her muzzle against his flank. "Ravenpaw, can you help me with my prophecy? I need to find the other prophesied cats." She spoke sincerely, as if she was begging him to help.
Because of his affection for her and wanting to protect the Clans, Ravenpaw nodded. "Of course I'll help you," he mewed.
Then Frostpaw ran into the den. "Ravenpaw!" she cried nervously.
Ravenpaw looked at her. "What?" he asked.
"OakClan is attacking the dawn patrol! Lynxpaw is on that patrol!"
