Ravenpaw stood at the top of the tree for the second time in his life, looking down at the cats gathered beneath him. Applefall was in the crowd, giving him a polite smile. Frostpaw stood next to Leafpelt. Ravenpaw knew that medicine cat apprentices had to be deemed ready by the medicine cat (and StarClan) and go to the Lightstone to get their warrior name, so Frostpaw couldn't get her warrior name yet.
Lynxpaw stood behind Ravenpaw, head down and looking depressed. "What's wrong?" he whispered as Sunstar was speaking.
Before she could answer, Sunstar called the many cats on the tree, "Lynxpaw, Ravenpaw, Wolfpaw, Dawnpaw, Brightpaw, and Eaglepaw, please step forward."
The six cats stepped up to Sunstar. Lynxpaw brightened up a bit, eyes shining and standing tall. Even so, Ravenpaw knew she wasn't alright, but he couldn't talk to her now.
Sunstar spoke proudly of the cats, giving each a description that showed they were ready to be warriors. Dawnpaw became Dawnshine, Eaglepaw became Eaglewing, Brightpaw became Brightstorm, and Wolfpaw became Wolfheart.
"Lynxpaw, oh, Lynxpaw...You are one of the fastest cats in BirchClan, with fighting skills like none other. You can confuse your enemy beyond their limits, and you know exactly where their weak points are. Not to mention you're a hunting prodigy. Roseheart told me she expects great things from you as a warrior. You follow the warrior code-" Ravenpaw saw Lynxpaw's ears flatten for a moment as he said that "-and care about your Clan in so many ways. I speak for StarClan when I say I name you Lynxheart!"
"Lynxheart! Lynxheart!" the Clan changed. Lynxheart smiled, her previous despairing feelings seeming to nearly vanish. Ravenpaw was still going to ask her about it, but at least she was happy now.
Before Sunstar could speak for Ravenpaw, Mistyleaf whispered something to the leader. Sunstar nodded as she spoke, and then looked back to Ravenpaw. "Ravenpaw, you are a combination of your mother and your father. You have both of their courage, your father's strength, and your mother's willingness to never give up. You care about the cats around you and will do anything to protect them." Ravenpaw smiled at Applefall as he heard those words, and Applefall blushed as she smiled back. "I speak for all of StarClan when I say I name you Ravenmist!"
"Ravenmist! Ravenmist!" the cats chanted. Ravenmist noticed tears in Mistyleaf's eyes, and he remembered their talk when he was a kit.
Mistyleaf looked at him. She sighed, knowing it was time to tell him. "My love is up there."
Ravenkit looked confused. "But Thunderclaw's down here."
Mistyleaf licked Ravenkit's ear. "It's hard to explain. Thunderclaw is my mate, but I loved another cat at the time," she started. "His name was Ravenclaw. We'd been close as apprentices, and Ravenclaw revealed he loved me the same day Thunderclaw did. I was torn between the two, and the only thing that solved it was when Ravenclaw was killed. He gave his life for me, saving me from a Twoleg's bullet. That's why I named you Ravenkit."
Mistyleaf had whispered something to Sunstar. Maybe it had been to have Ravenpaw named Ravenmist so Mistyleaf would never forget?
A sweet scent filled the air around him, turning his attention. "Applefall!" Ravenmist meowed.
"Ravenmist, hm?" Applefall purred. "I've got to get used to calling you that."
Frostpaw ran over. "Congratulations!" she meowed happily. "You're finally a warrior!"
Ravenmist licked his sister's ear, and felt her excitement and happiness for him. But he could tell that she was deep in thought, possibly using telepathy to read a cat's mind.
Lynxheart was sitting alone by the entrance to the Clan, seeming deep in thought. Ravenmist meowed, "I'll be right back," and padded over to her.
"Hey," Lynxheart meowed.
"Hey," Ravenmist replied.
"You're concerned about me, aren't you?" Ravenmist flattened his ears. His sister was sharp...too sharp for her own good.
Lynxheart purred. "I'm fine, Ravenmist. Seriously."
"Something's wrong," Ravenmist said.
"Yeah," Lynxheart agreed. "We've just become warriors and are part of some huge prophecy, and I..." She trailed off.
"You what?" Ravenmist asked.
"Nothing," Lynxheart meowed. "I've got to go, see you soon." She padded away.
"Lynxheart, wait!" Ravenmist called, but his sister never looked back. Ravenmist knew something was up, and he was going to find out.
To Be Continued
So, I don't like people predicting my stuff, so...RAVENMIST.
I've been planning for Ravenmist to be his name for a while, actually...At first it WAS gonna be Ravenwing, but everyone was saying that and I didn't want to make it seem so predictable, so I decided to go with the one that makes everyone remember poor Mistyleaf's love life and how nearly everyone she's loved has gotten killed by Twolegs and dogs.
Okay, yeah. Anyone wanna hear trick questions?
What call for help is the same in capitals, upside down, right side up, and backwards?
In a race, you pass the person in second place. What place are you in now?
If you dig a hole two feet by three feet by four feet, how much dirt is in the hole?
Okay, I'm done. BYEEEEE
